That's a tough call.   At his age, he may recognize that his prime earning years are over.  It may be a case of him saying "I'm 66.   I'm tired and ready to just fish.  How can I maintain the lifestyle I'm accustomed to without working?"    So it's entirely possible that he's making a push for a few more checks before he just stops doing anything.   FWIW, I think the Survivor thing was just to get his face/name out to a different audience.   I think that's why some of these ex-athletes do Dancing with the Stars.

Because I am stupid, I wasted my first round pick on a guy who probably won't sign (gonna be a football player, this guy). On the other hand, it was a weak draft class, and the guy I drafted is heads-and-shoulders above the five guys drafted immediately after him (or at least the first five guys that I had scouted). So has my stupidity benefitted me by giving me an extra first rounder next season in what could be a considerably better draft class?

Well, I'm sure you know you have to offer him his initial demand in order to get the comp pick.   I don't think it's a bad thing to move your pick to the next season.  You just don't know if next year's draft wil be any better.   Your stupidity may be rewarded.  Which, in my mind, is a bad thing.  Never reward stupid or lazy.  Hopefully, your guy signs for 8m and you are not rewarded.

Probably.  Punch yourself in the nuts as punishment in order to cancel out the reward for stupidity.

I don't think so.   Living in a cave and scratching out messages with burnt wood doesn't appeal to me.
