Promote before or after rollover? Topic

In your opinion is it better to promote good prospects after minor league playoffs or after rollover?

Between mini league teams, not to majors

If the players are worthy do it after the MiL playoffs. That way they will already be where they should be the following year and you won't be spending next years payroll to promote them.

If a player has been at a level for two seasons, promote before unless you want to risk a retirement.

It shouldn't be a problem as you almost have to try to make a player retire but I do it before rollover.   Sets your salary base for the next season so you dont' have to worry about promotion costs.

I had a player or two who were potential ML players that I didn't promote due to organizational depth, and after two High A seasons, they retired.

Legit prospects shouldn't be in RL/LoA/HiA going into their third season.

LoA/HiA is one level in my mind to be split in one season or just skipping LoA altogether for the good prospects.  The result is that my LoA teams always are terrible.

RL/LoA/HiA - first 2 seasons.  Don't repeat one
AA - 3rd season
AAA - on the 40 and waiting to make the bigs

No one retires if you follow that program.  And, if a player is a true BL and not some AAAA injury insurance, that's the best path to the bigs.

Im not worried about people retiring.  Actually I am, but its not what I am asking about.

What im asking is, is there any advantage to promote a guy say from AA to AAA, before rollover vs waiting until after rollover and promoting in preseason?

It sets your base salary before the new season and gives you less to do in what is usually a busy pre-season.   I prefer my players to be where they're going to be for the next season because it helps me determine where I am as an organization.  During the pre-season, I want to concentrate on additions instead of what I'm currently dealing with.
