How many type a players can one team have in one season?

As many as you can sign.  No max # rules like in MLB.

And once you sign one, the marginal cost of signing the next one continues to drop as you sign more (though you continue to supply your competition with a top 50 pick, so don't completely overlook that).

SO if I let what I believe is 3 guys leave as fa's ill get 1st rounders for each?

You'll get a supplemental pick (between the 1st and 2nd round) for each that gets signed, but the other pick you get depends on how many type a FAs the owner has signed before he signed yours.

Not "before"... "in addition to" ....they all get re-ordered when prospects arrive.

Ok so if I have 3 type a's and 1 type b I could with my own pick have 5 of the top 50 picks?
10/15/2010 4:49 PM
Assuming they get signed, yeah.

EDIT: Or more, depending on who signs them.

Ok awesome and if they dont get signed then there is a chanceI could get them back for cheaper?

Right, and now they retain their type a or b designation until the draft prospects appear.

You'll get a supplemental pick (between the 1st and 2nd round) for each that gets signed, but the other pick you get depends on how many type a FAs the owner has signed before he signed yours.

Clarification: if the signing owner had a first-16 overall pick in the first round, then you'll get their second round pick (or third, fourth, etc., depending on how many Type A's they sign), plus the supplemental pick.

It's not uncommon to lose a type A and only get a supplemental round (in the 40's) and a third or fourth round pick (in the 80's or higher).

Bottom line: losing a Type A is not a guaranteed assurance that you're going to get prime draft picks in return.

For some reason I thought it was 1-12 picks get to keep their 1st rounder.
