If you have a player that has been waived 2 seasons in a row and no one claims him because he is old and making 5.4 M with 50s across the board. Is it unreasonable to offer him packaged with a prospect to lose the salary?

On the most basic level, it's a good idea-- but this is basically the same as selling a prospect (especially since the player, if it's Bailey Boone, is totally useless and in the last year of his contract) and in some worlds it would be vetoed.

Boone  I would just release the guy and eat the salary.  It's only one more season that you are on the hook.  It's not worth giving up a prospect to avoid that.

Tthe veto is to protect owners from ruining a franchise and potentailly creating an imbalance in the world.
My team is one of the stronger ones, while Norfolk is a middle of the road team.

This trade does not do harm nor make either team overly strong.

I feel that if you are vetoing for any other reason, you are over stepping your bounds.

The prospect is not great by any stretch. Additionally I have no room on the BL squad for him, so I have no reason for him to be taking up a spot on the 40man.

Depends on the world.  It's acceptable in most, but some frown on it.

I always enjoy the opportunity to use a marginal prospect to dump a deadweight salary.  Go for it.

As an owner with limited experience please help me understand.

If the trade does not create an imbalance why should it matter so much then?

How is it that big of an impact to the other owners?

Shouldn't these reasons be why you veto a trade?

Because everybody who runs their world has their own idea of how things should be.  They are not always entirely rational.

And for the most part cash for prospects will be frowned upon, but using a deadweight salary to dump a prospect will not.

The problem with cash in trades is that it can be abused such that owners are synthetically playing with a higher budget than anyone else, whereas you do not have this issue from dumping deadweight salary.

You don't play in a vacuum.  Your deal, from a strong team to a middle of the road team, is between two of thirty two teams.  Those thirty teams get to decide if they like your deal.

Personally, I don't like deals where one teams gets current/future BL talent and the other gets "cap space".

So then, rather than using a veto to protect newbs or to help avoid imbalances, we just use it to disapprove of a trade we wouldn't make.

That seems an awful lot like trying to run another owner's team to me...

If you don't want opinions that conflict with your beliefs, don't ask questions in an open forum.

I'm looking out for the best interests of the world.  I don't give a rat's *** about your particular team.   What you're doing, or attempting to do, is no different than selling a player.  I think that's a horrible precedent to be set in a world.   What you could do is trade your 5m contract and a prospect for a decent BL player.   Then you're trading future BL talent for current BL talent.

some leageus use the veto, to basically run your team for you , while some have never vetoed anything, you need to find a world that is aligned with your views on what the veto is used for

Once a world's guidelines and standards are set, there's really no need to veto.    Owners just don't attempt to make deals that conflict with the guidelines and standards.
