Requiring competitive bidding to get your career minor leaguers back will use up the time that was saved by improving the re-sign process for coaches.

For worlds which have a shortage of minor leaguers, it's because so many 6-yr FAs with 60+ ratings take up space in the ML FA pool and won't sign a minor league contract until the year after their skills have diminished into the 50s.

Many times the losing Rule 5 players is a function of a team which uses the Rule 5 draft as their AAA development squad. They draft 10, hope a few get through on the offer back, and eat the $50,000 cost if they lose them, knowing the team getting the player back is out $272,500 to retain the player they have developed.
This particular "feature" annoys me greatly. The only reason the R5 schlub has a $327K contract is because some other team was braindead enough to select them. Why should I have to pay for their stupidity? If you offer back a rule 5 previously signed to a minor league contract and the return is accepted, the drafting team should be the one covering the difference, not the team minding its own business.

This is not a feature. This is reality. Plus if you don't want to pay the price, don't accept the offer back. Or if you want the guy back, don't let him go in the rule 5 draft to begin with. Pretty much common sense there.

timf, how many times do ML teams choose 10 in the Rule 5 draft?  Go ahead and research back to the 1800s and let us know...

If you lose 10 guys in the rule 5 draft it's your own fault, nobody else's. Protect your players worth protecting and let the guys not worth protecting leave. Plain and simple. I don't see how you can argue that point. Plus if a team is selecting 10 guys in the rule 5 draft you probably have a problem with that particular owner and I'd look into why he took 10 guys. Is he tanking? Plus, there is no way one team can get 10 legitimate big leaguers in the rule 5 draft in a good world. I rarely see more than a handful of ML quality guys going in the rule 5 draft in my worlds and they are all going to different teams, rarely will one team ever get more than 1 or 2 big leaguers in the rule 5.

Okay, Not sure if anyone else has had this problem..  One of my current world was in the process of rolling over and then sat waiting for new owners when the update took place.  We just filled today and it looks like I will lose 1-2 KEY players that I had planned on bringing up for this new season due to the new monor league FA rule.. Has anyone had to deal with this issue? Is it wrong for me to expect support to fix this for me?

The main player I'm worried about is http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2458032.. in world VINSCULLY

If he's such a KEY player for the next season, you should have put him on the 40 before rollover.

Your bad.  Support should tell you to pound sand if you open a ticket.

Yep.  If a six year pro isn't on your 40, that's on you.
11/19/2010 6:26 PM
Well that may be the case..

Before the update would I have had a chance to to add him to the 40 or bring him up to the ML? If so then they should fix this for me..

Now if i wouldnt have a chance to bring him up before the update then I agree with you my loss.

This is only my 2nd season and 1st time dealing with something like this.. If i wouldv lost exclusive rights to him under old rules then I have no problem learning my lesson the hard way.
11/19/2010 7:17 PM
No, you would not have had that opportunity.  He's a 6 year FA.  He was either going to ask for a minor league deal or a big league deal.   You may have had the opportunity to resign him but that was it.    He was a FA.  Now you just have to bid like everyone else.

11/19/2010 7:37 PM
You have to "clean up" your roster before rollover.   Go to the FA screen and check your team.   If you want to keep anyone in the minors who will be a FA, add them to the 40.   Always do that.

On everybody's HBD home page:

Alert: The ability to resign 6 year MiL free agents has been reinstated.

Guess the whining reached critical mass.
12/7/2010 12:52 PM
The alerts should be in red.

It was a pain in the butt filling out my minors in 2 worlds I had to suffer thru that.  Glad they flipped it back, it makes life easier not having to work to maintain AA & AAA filler.
