An apparently new category, "Top Tools: Best Starting Pitcher", appeared today on the Mordecai world home page and none of our owners seems to know what it refers to. Anyone?

I'm guessing it means the top 5 SP in each league.

I understand that, iain, but what it is puzzling is what it is based on. There are five SP listed for each league, and the implication is that these are the top five for each league, but what is completely unclear is (a) what are the criteria, and (b) where can "top tools" be found?

What is clear is that it is definitely not based on this season's stats, does not seem to be based on career stats either, and is also not based on overall rating.

I was under the impression it was the pitchers who had the best pitches. Thats how I read it.

No, that doesn't seem to be it either.

In Doubleday we had our first "Top Tools" thing and it was "The fastest players" and it ranked them by speed obviously.. So it's something that I guess is supposed to be obvious with pitchers. Who were rated as the "Best Pitchers"? And see what the common factor is between them all.. There should be something.

Could it be the top 5 pitchers based on overall ratings?

Sum of control/vL/vR?

If it bases fastest players on simply the speed rating, I'd guess the best pitchers are based on OVR rating, and nothing more.  Though that seems a bit too easy considering that they hyped it as part of the last big update. We can find that info on our own, can't we?

Speed is really the only rating that determines "fastest".

But a lot of factors go into determining "best" pitcher.  Most HBDers who have been around the block a few times realize that OVR is a poor indicator of how good a player actually is.  If "best pitcher" turns out to be highest OVR pitchers, then it's pretty useless.  But if it's something other than highest OVR, then it may give a little more insight into how the game engine values the combination of control, splits and pitches.

Exactly, that's why I asked what was common among the pitchers that were considered the best.
