I do check the thread about once or twice a month. I love it! I'm curious though, why do you say that percentage categories are difficult and counting stats are not? I don't understand how they'd be different.
Career doubles doesn't interest me at all, but career OBP and SLG are actually relevant numbers that are interesting.
For what it's worth, I also feel top 100 is insane and probably too much work for one unpaid person. WIS should give you a few free seasons for keeping this going this long!!! But if you did top 40 or top 50 that would be awesome!
The hard part about percentages is that the numbers can go down and can be easily overlooked for that reason. Its easy for me when I know what the floor is, for example the player in 20th has 800 Home Runs, I can run through it quickly and notice all players with 800+............Lets take BA, lets say 20th place overall has a career BA of .350, the guy in 15th has a bad season and drops from .353 to .348. I will overlook him dropping out of the top 20 because his career BA is now under .350...Doing BA and ERA slows me down, irritates me, and forces me every once in awhile to look at the players on the list to make sure I did not leave someone in the top 20 for multiple seasons who actually dropped out of the top 20. I dread doing those 2 categories......
Maybe some day in the far future(something like summer of 2012) I will consider those 2 categories when alot of players are retired and there is not much movement on the list, until then I would rather not add more percentage categories.
I doubt I will do top 100 until the top of the list is full of retired players, but I think short term top 40 or 50 is realistic. The biggest thing that slows me down is the daily updates. A world like Cochrane(because they have a lot of players on the list) can take me 20-30 minutes to update. For that reason until there is a lot of retirements I think I will start working on top 50, but only do updates for players who move into the top 20.
