I have been waiting in the wings for a while now to snag up a badazz catcher on IFA or via trade somewhere. I search through most rosters in trade just to see what kinds of catchers are out there. I have seen supreme defensive catchers, and I have seen offensive mashers, and I have even seen one that is close to being both but his durability would only give him about 250 AB's a year.
Is it just rare to see a catcher with DuR90+ offensive numbers 90ish across the board and arm, accuracy and PC over 90?
If using OVR as a judge for simplicity sake, it seems a catcher in the mid 70's is close to as good as it gets. Too rare to seek out a C with OVR of 90+? If found, would he be untouchable?
How many real life catchers are Gold Glove defensively, and Silver Slugger offensively? Pudge might be the only comparison. Benito did it for 1 year, Gary Carter had a couple years like that, Joe Mauer may turn out to be the player you described.
So yeah, it is probably pretty rare to see the perfect combo.
