Does anyone have a sense of what goes into the AS voting?

I ask because I've had some questionable inclusions/snubs before, but I could usually made *some* argument as to why it happened, but for this one in my current season I am at a loss.

On the All-Star team (with 4 games until the break):

Alex Lee (RP)
46 G, 66.0 IP, 7W - 0L, 47K, 1.30 WHIP, 2.18 ERA

Louis Siebert (RP)
51 G, 80.1 IP, 11W - 1L, 54 K, 1.10 WHIP, 2.80 ERA

From the same team, but NOT on the All-Star team:

Pedro Rosario (RP)
42 G, 91.1 IP, 20W - 0L, 94K, 0.80 WHIP, 1.28 ERA

So... games pitched maybe? Any other possible explanations for why Sparky selects Lee and Siebert to the AS team ahead of Rosario?

Sparky hates Latin ballplayers?

Doesn't everybody?

That's ridiculous.  And I'm not talking about that guy being off the all star roster.  I"m talking about that guy winning 20 games 5 years in a row as a SuA.  And he's got 20 wins this season in only 42 appearances, a little more than halfway through the season.  How the HELL does he do that?????!!!!

I don't run a conventional staff or rotation with this team. If a RP is good, he has a chance to hold the other team while we come back and win. If he's great (like Rosario was, especially when he started with a sub-0.50 ERA through 75 or so innings), he has the chance to do so often.

Gimmick wins aren't rewarded by the all-star or Cy Young voting.

1) "Gimmick" wins are in the eye of the beholder.
2) The Cy Young voting is done by owners.
3) His rate numbers are the best in the World as well, so even if he was 0-0 he should be an All-Star.

Don't you dare besmirch the name of Chris Nen. He won every single of his Cy Young awards exclusively as a starter. Surely you recall that from all the many times he shut you down in the post-season.

I have submitted a ticket. FWIW, this is what the knowledge base says matters for RP - innings pitched, earned runs, strikeouts, saves, wins, losses.

At the All-Star break:

Innings Pitched - Rosario (94.2); Siebert (85.1); Lee (68.2) (Advantage Rosario)
Earned Runs - Rosario (14); Lee (16); Siebert (26) (Advantage Rosario)
Strikeouts - Rosario (100); Siebert (58); Lee (50) (Advantage Rosario)
Saves - Rosario (0); Siebert (0); Lee (0) (Advantage None)
Wins - Rosario (20); Siebert (12); Lee (7) (Advantage Rosario)
Losses - Rosario (0); Lee (0); Siebert (1) (Advantage Rosario/Lee)

Three weeks+ later, the problem has been discovered & apparently fixed.

Drumroll...the reason Rosario was not selected to the all-star team was because he had been selected pitcher of the week earlier in the season! You've pointed out a bug we have corrected this AM.

Thank you!

ME:
Thanks for getting back to me.

The bug was that no one who had been selected as pitcher of the week before the AS game was eligible to be *in* the AS game? While I suppose it is possible, I must say (if that is what the bug was) that I am shocked it hadn't been brought up before.

Us, too.

We are amazed sometimes at some of the bugs that live and breathe for an extended period before being discovered.

i'm surprised they admitted to it more than anything
4/22/2011 7:37 AM
I don't really believe them, to be honest. Rosario had been pitcher of the week many times before early in seasons and never been snubbed from the AS game like that before.
