MLB trades involving where cash goes for a player have a 50K max.
This is patently wrong.  Above a certain amount, I think $1M but maybe $1.5M and in any case way more than $50K, the permission of the commissioner is needed but the trade can still occur.
I swear I read it yesterday when the Royals traded cash for Treanor.  It may have been just for players who were signed as FAs, before a certain date, 50K was the limit. That way you couldn't sign player X, then trade him for more cash.  However, I can't find it now.

It is anything above $1M goes to the commisioner's office, but that is usually cash covering contracts not cash for players.

Well, I listed one that showed 300k.    Nonetheless, the rule is 1m, MLB does not have a budget cap and there's never been a case of a prospect being bought/sold for 4.7m.

Although what was the Nats salary $50 Million? (Vs $185 million.)

Even though MLB teams use cash to buy players, some owners on HBD will never acknowledge the fact! Because the sky isn't blue!

MLB teams don't use cash to buy prospects.   Without a doubt, Selig would veto any deal where Bryce Harper was being sold for 4.7m.   Best interests of baseball.

Do you deny this to be a fact?

You're talking about a couple hundred thousand bucks for crap players, and you're generally talking about big budget teams giving money to small budget teams in an unbalanced economic setup, as opposed to an environment in HBD where everyone has the same resources available. Even them, I'm almost sure I remember the commish making the Yankees re-work a deal that was initially essentially just a million dollars or so for a player - maybe Aaron Boone?

There are plenty of worlds where this sort of thing would be allowed and no one would care - find one if you don't like the one you are in. Of course, you may find other things about the world you don't like a result of it...

Methinks the OP wasn't looking for opinions.  He was looking for confirmation of his rightness.

Show me the deal where the Nats sold a player for 4.7m then I'll explain how the Nats don't have a 185m budget just like everyone else in MLB.
I'll revert back to this.  Especially the first line.

That was pretty obvious from the first post, and if it wasn't clear enough, the "the thing people don't understand" post on the first page should have cleared it up.

The argument was dumb out the gates because dumbass was comparing cash toi cap space.

You can (and countless times, we have) argue whether you're ok with giving somwonw else a higher cap, but to point to MLB and say "they used cash" is moroniic and should be punishable with a wet fish across the face.

Even the trout seems to be saying "DUMBASS!!!"

In truth, I think it's moronic to use an example of a 10 year vet being sold for 300k when trying to claim buying a prospect for 4.7m should be OK.     And continuing on AFTER I posted an example where three players sold for 1m-1.5m was vetoed by the commish in MLB.

"It's not cash. It's cap space!!!! Glub glub"

I know I'm getting off-topic(but this pretty much seems resolved) but have you guys seen the killer whales training their young how to hunt?   There's a seal on a small iceberg.    One "peeks" to get his position, makes a whale noise and 4-5 others rush the iceberg then dive at the last moment to create a wave in order to wash the seal off the berg.   It's pretty awesome.

FYI, tec's link had a whale vs. seal video on the side.

That was wild.

There are tons of great Orca hunting videos. They have video of Orcas drowning a baby grey whale by seperating it from mom and jumping on the babies back. They have video of Orcas "playing with their food" throwing seals and penguins into the air long after they are dead just for the hell of it.
