And he is a great example. Getting back to the main question. Will he at some point test the FA market? Even if you would like to keep him. And it seems like people are saying yes he will. But if you play it right. You can keep him until his early 30's.
He will be 35 by the time his next contract is up. At that point his ratings will be on the decline, and I should have no problem keeping him locked up if I so choose. This
guy was acquired via trade right after signing a 5 year deal during arbitration. He just signed an extension with me for less than what he was making, which will take him until he is 34. So he has never tested the market either.
