Would you consider this "tanking"? Topic

If this commish is playing guys with OAs of 31 and 42 in the BL team that is kinda sketchy.  It should be easy enough to replace those guys from even the rule 5.  Not to mention all the FAs you can sign easily enough for a mil that would surely be better then a 31 rated C.  No matter how you slice it no way a 31 C should even be in AAA let alone the bigs.

Then again, if all the rest of the owners are jumping to the defense of the commish there must be a side of the story that we havent heard yet.

Does sound slightly fishy I have to admit though.
there are owners that agree with me also, it was just a few pages earlier that he didnt read- the tanking was brought out in chat by another owner- not me

I dunno.  If we're talking about KC, it looks like a decent team to me.  Perhaps not a model to follow, but not egregious...

Our commish's 31 rated C has a 89 PC rating, which I also think is important.   I don't think he is tanking at all.   This is his first ever real bad season, and we've been in the league for 20 seasons.

If this guys tanking he should have started sooner. This will be the 4th season his record has been worse than the previous one. As others have stated OVR is a meaningless rating for the most part unless a players core skills for his position are solid this rating serves no purpose. Hisn' pitching staff isn't that bad but the offense and defense are. Typically tankers don't have players in their 30's on their teams, nor do they have players making $9M in salary. The problem that I see is he has no help in the minors either so this may be a team in trouble for several seasons. Regardless if he has been around for a while, you should be able to put together a team that can win more than 30% of it's games. I would not be thrilled to be in a world that allows this and would be even more concerned if it was the commish that was running that pathetic franchise.

His CF is a fine player.  His LF has an OPS of .802.  His RF has 91 homers in 3.5 seasons.  He seems to be weak at 1B/2B.  His SS is fine.  His 3B OPS's .739.  HIs catche is defensively oriented.

I don't see tanking.  I see a guy fielding an odd lineup that is built around power and not splits...so the OVR's are low.  They are odd players but not terrible players.

well, they are 23-50 for a reason whether they are "odd" or "terrible"

If there's a wins floor in the league (and I'll never join another world without one), owners sometimes have to promote guys earlier than they would like. Without such a rule, it's not tanking if an owner doesn't bring guys up before he's ready to compete. If he's not playing people horribly out of position, starting 0% P, trading away good older ML players for non-prospects, etc., he's not tanking. Without a wins floor it makes no long-term sense to promote players just to win 60 games instead of 45.

Sometimes when you post looking for a certain answer, you don't get it.

45 wins is pretty weak.   Someone constantly winning 45 to reach a win minimum probably is tanking.

specific names and worlds, plz

Well, you go to his team list on his profile, then you say "which league has played 73 games", then you say "who's the commish?"

Even better; he just pleaded innocence on the league chat because he didn't name names in the league forum.

A band of chattering randomly typing monkeys could have figured out who he was talking about (but not sergei, apparently. Sorry dude)

Anyone who has played 20 seasons and wins 50ish games is not trying to win.

Ok. I'll bite.
Your Gleeman World team. You've packed on the salary for a few straight seasons, got a few years with good results.
This year, you're 58-68. There's a piper that has to be paid at the end of that run.

You don't see a 50 something coming for you? If you do, are you going to stick around for it?

I don't pretend to read this guy's mind. But a blanket statement like "Anyone who has played 20 seasons and wins 50ish games is not trying to win" is a little bold.

if i cared enough to do that work, i would have done that work and figured it out on my own. it's so much easier to get someone to spill the beans.

deathinahole, I'm glad you brought me up.  I have had 6 seasons since moved past the early learning the game phase, where I have tried to accumulate talent as my primary goal rather than win games.  In 5 of those 6 I have won 70-75 games (I'm including the season you quoted where I am on pace for 74 wins).  One season I had poor luck, some injuries, some bad underperformance etc...  and won 62 games.

I may have been a little overstated in my comment, 50 something doesn't necassarily mean he wasn't trying but it's pretty strong evidence... but if it gets into the low 50's... I think my comment was pretty accurate.  The owner in the example is on pace for high 40's.  Come on... thats embarassing.
