I'm on the fence about trading this guy: Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jim Jackson

for this guy: Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Randy Post

I would hate to give up the offense and defense Jackson provides but Post would be a great addition to the pitching staff.
Thoughts?

Look at his ERA this and last year....that's NOT a great addition to any competing ML staff. Keep your guy, or if you are going to move him, get a way better pitcher than one who'll likely post a 4.50-5.00 ERA for you.

Jackson is much better than Post, so I wouldn't do the trade unless you're desperate for cap room or pitching.  Jackson is the complete package with his power, eye, and defense while Post has good control and splits but mediocre pitches.  Don't get me wrong, he's a fine pitcher, he's just not on Jackson's level.

I agree that Post is going to be a good pitcher for a team with a decent defense, but straight up, I'd rather have Jackson. Having said that, you appear to have 2 very good catchers. I'd either try to swing the deal with the other catcher, or see if you can get a little more back from the other owner.

If it were me, I would love to have the SP Post as a #3, but not in return for the C Jackson.  He is HOF-caliber.

I countered his original offer (Post and 2 minor leaguers) with Post and this guy:  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Fausto Reyes
He turned it down, his rational being that he was giving up 2 guys drafted with the #3 pick.  Hard to deal rationally with a guy putting those expectations up as a barrier to a deal.

That what I see Post as, a #3 SP, if his vR was in the 80s and he had a pitch in the 80s he could probably justify calling him an ace.

yah the reyes trade for post is a good trade.  Especially if the world is pitching rich.  No way Id do the original deal even if the world was pitching poor.  Id only consider it if the world was exceptionally pitching poor, and I felt strongly that Post would put me over the top for the WS.

I thought your counter was reasonable.  Some context would have helped.  With a real good defense and a reasonable park, Post would be better than most think, however in your park, being a flyball pitcher, you may have some erratic seasons with him because of the HR variance.  Overall the trade looks win-win.  It's not a killer for you to keep your HOF C either.

That catcher is a beast.  I wouldn't do that deal.  Pitching is much easier to come by through free agency than a beast of a C is.  Look to fill the need another way. Catchers like that just don't exist very often (defense and offense with enough durability to make him a primary player).

Thanks for all the advice so far, guys.  Still working on a possible deal but nothing is set in stone.
If the deal was Post and this guy Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Randall Martin would you make the deal?

I know giving up a hitter like Jackson may be nuts to some of you but I'm looking for some young pitching and Jackson is the best chip I have to deal.
