Would you resign these guys? Topic

MaxEckstein wants $7.1M for a single year/$8.25M for 5 years.  Plays everyday.  Hits 30-40 HR's.  A great fielding RF, so-so at 3B. Could sign him for just the one year, I suppose.  More interested in if you think he's worth the longer contract.

WilfredoHernandez wants $5.6M for one year/$6.75M for 4 years.  Plays everyday.  Hits 25-28 HR's.  A so-so fielding LF or good fielding 1B.  I have other 1B guys..so he goes to the OF if I resign. would you cough up the dough?

Also....I may end up playing a power-hitting RF, with fielding numbers of 64-43-62-64.  Anybody play a fulltime OF with a glove of 43? Issues?

I'd try trading the rights to both players to someone who can't resist their overall ratings - trust me, they're out there.

And I've never played a RF with fielding below 50, but I would if he could compensate enough offensively.

yes to the RF, no to the LF

I only say yes to the RF, because you can play him in multiple positions.. if you arent in a position to win, then I'd say arbitrate them 3 times and get draft picks out of them

Both are OK solutions but asking for too much money due to high OVR.  I would not long-term either of them; arb OK depending on your budget and needs this season.

Both guys are arbing for the 2nd time.  I was surprised at their arb demands.  I thought Eckstein would be in the $5M range and Hernandez about $4M.

I imagine their durability/health is part of that reason.

Or I could acquire this guy in a sign and trade. He would be signed for 4X$6.25.  A nice glove guy for 3B wth a career OPS, suprisingly in the same zip code as the other guys.     .795-.785-.786

Deal is on the table right now. A fair swap.

I would sign Hernandez long term.  I would trade Eckstein while his value is high....his ML OBP just wouldn't justify the money IMO.

If I don't plan to keep the player post arb years, and they ask for what I consider to be too much in arb, I offer millions less. I don't think I've lost one. They go FA when they can. (Mine is a very small sample set.)

i'd check to see what's out on the open market before deciding.  odds are you can get more bang for your buck to replace them, i'd almost certainly cut the LF and i'd probably cut the RF too unless the COF market is reallly dry.  i'd definitely never offer either of them long term deals.

i guess you could trade for tino wood since he plays decent D at 3B, just be sure to give him a mutual option and whatnot.
