Do you get to pick your team or are they randomly assigned?  How 'full' are the squads as far as salaries?

All random. One bad thing is the better teams get top priority on WW for 1st 20+ games..

If it's season 1, how do they determine who the 'better' teams are?

As a new world opens, how are the players allocated?  Is it a huge free agent pool or are all the teams already set with some (or all) players?  Are all the teams even as far as talent level and/or future contract/budget obligations?
Teams are already mostly stocked, from the majors through all the minors levels.  You'll find a mix of good players at reasonable prices, and not so good players with crappy contracts.  Some teams are built to compete now, others are built more for the future.

You get to pick your team.  Teams are mostly stocked, but there will be some openings on the rosters that you can fill yourself via trades or free agency.

I believe they determine it by talent level for the first season, IIRC.  Starting with season 2, initial waiver wire, draft order, etc. is determined by previous season's record.

You  pick your team, but the squad is blinded until the world begins.  It's really a crapshoot what type of team you wind up with, and I haven't really found that a team with a horrible ML squad will be blessed with good prospects.

Good stuff, thanks guys

Let me put it this way, a new world is not some nirvana that people make it out. Its basically the lotto, blindly picking a league and division and hoping you hit the magic numbers. In some worlds, like "For Life" the talent is awful across the board, and the prospects are average.

Not really true.  You can pick a team, and if you don't like what you see you can withdraw and pick another.

No. That is false.
You can't see anything until the world is full and approved.
You can not pull out and change teams.
12/17/2011 11:56 AM
It's true for joining an existing world.

If that's not true for a new world, then it seems like a downside for joining a season 1 world.
12/17/2011 12:22 PM
It's not true for a new world.   But you can pull out and re-enter in another division.   You just don't know if your move is for better or worse.

As USFB said, it's not some utopia.   You can get good or bad.   That's why so many new worlds have 6-8 openings after the first season.   Some people get a lump of coal for Christmas and don't really want it.

Looks like WIS has dropped the "any new world must have 1/2 new users" requirement, and dropped it to "no new HBD owners needed".

Holy ****.  That's just retarded.
