Time to bring them up? Topic

1 game back, but below .500.  I have 2 hot prospects (2nd pick in the draft and a 23mil FA) that are good enough to start on the ML roster now.  The plan had been to keep them in the minors this season due to their youth.  They are doing more than just fine at AAA.  Should iI eep the plan and bring them up after minor league game 20 next season or bring them up now and give it everything I got to squeak out the division this season?  If it matters this is a team I would renew 10 seasons ahead if I could so what happens 7 seasons from now does matter to me.

Making the playoffs > not making the playoffs.

Fair enough.

Depends on how many games are left.   I'd make a playoff push if I was past the A/S break but, if I were 19-20, I wouldn't change my initial plans.

Looks like he's at the A/S break in a very tight division:

A couple of players could make a big difference.    Bring 'em up.  They should have options.   If it doesn't work out, you can plant them in AAA next season and save an arb/FA year.

Thanks.  If it matters the players are Russell Byrd and Fernando Servet.  Byrd's bat is more than ML ready.  Servets could probably use a little more seasoning.  Still he is better than most of the guys in ML roster.  Their gloves are the bigger concern.  I'll probably bring them up as has been suggested here..  Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.  Any other opinions would be welcome too.

Right now, they're pretty ordinary bats in most worlds.  But, if they're better than what you have, they're better than what you have.

Russell Byrd looks pretty good. I wouldn't be afraid to bring him up.

I'm usually all about promoting pieces to the ML level if they're better than what I have there, but at 19 and with what looks to me like a mediocre bat, I would let Servet marinate a little more first.

Thanks.  Byrd has some durability issues so I am going to sit him for 5 games or so and then I will bring him up. I am going to let Servet simmer until next season.  Thanks everyone.

Be sure to 'compare' the bats to their ML level OF counterparts, because neither of those guys are infielders.  Not yet.

Right.  I will be playing Byrd in LF and keeping Servet in AAA.  When he grows up Bryd projects to a low-mid 90's 2B/CF.  Right now according to my formula he has the 5th best bat in my system.  Eventually he projects to the best, but right now he should give 100 points more of OPS than the guy losing his lineup spot and speed.

Wow... You do need bats. But that's why you got a Byrd! :)

Yep.  I'd be 16 down in some divisions.  I'm only in 1st by luck.
