21/22yr old IFA development Topic

I don't believe that, projected ratings are projected ratings as long as your scouting budget is high enough to project correctly.

For instance, Tori Leverton, drafted at 22 yrs old. Projected to be 85/75/88 CTRL/LH/RH thats with 18 college scouting... developed +5 CTRL, +5 LH +6 RH at 24 yrs old. And he will do the same this year at 25 yrs old

Do you have a similar example with a 22 year old IFA?  Age matters with IFAs, even if they are still showing a bunch of room in their projections.

And also, I doubt your guy will replicate his gains from last year, probably more like 2-3 points in each of those categories.

a 22 year old IFA and 22 year old college player is the same thing, a prospect is a prospect. But it will be interesting to see how he develops at age 25

This is incorrect.  On average, a player drafted at 22 will gain far more points than an IFA signed at 22.  The remaining improvement  for an IFA signed at 22, on average, is closer to that of a 22 yo player drafted out of high school at 18.

what dedelman said.  A 22 IFA will progress little if any.  A 22 year old draftee can progress quite well.

To answer the original question on a 21 year old IFA, you'll see a handful of skills that will improve from the 1st ST line to their peak a point or 2 at most, and a couple of areas where they might progress 6+ points.  Overall, I'd anticipate about 4-5 points of overall improvement if you scouting says something greater than that is available.

Its been a while since I've looked into this when an enticing 21 year old IFA popped up, so IRock, I'd recommend digging into past 21 year old IFA signings from your multiple worlds.  There won't be a ton, but across all your worlds, you should be able to find 10 or so 21 year old IFAs signed to solid contracts (meaning they weren't scrap heap signings) and look into how they progressed.  It will give you an indication of where you're headed.

Here's the example of the guy I looked into 21 year old signings.  He'll hit his 2nd ST this season, so you should have a clue of where's he's going from his first ST line.  Add in a few points here and there from the day of signing till his 1st ST line and you can come to the conclussion that:

http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=4233458

signed for $26.5 mil (way too much, but it was late and there was no where else to put it after missing out on 2 younger, better looking prospects), should improve about 5-6 points overall, 2-3 points in vL, control, and all his pitches (if that) and 6+ points in vR, stamina, and health.  From my $18 mil IFA scouting bugets notes on the guy, they had his Control and velocity much higher than where they'll end up at, his vR a little higher, and everything else appears to be pretty much in line.  He looked then, and does today as a solid back of the rotation type guy or ideally a Long A reliever.

Use past history as a guideline for your guy, but don't expect too much.

This just isn't true, whether it should be or not.   You're evidently speaking based on how you think it should work, not on how it actually does.

So do IFA's signed at age 19/20 also develop less than College players at that age? I.e. does the slowdown in development only affect the 21/22 IFA's or all IFA's?
2/5/2014 12:39 PM
No, and and only the older IFAs are affected.  A 22 year old IFA pitcher will develop some (like Pineda from page one), but a 22 Year old position player IFA is done developing.  A 21 year old position player IFA will develop a wee tiny bit.
