Enough glove to play CF Topic

Is 70 enough glove to play CF is your range is 96?  Basically is this guy good enough defensively to play CF 3/4 of the time:   Lance "Lives Within a Mile of My RL Brother's House" Wallace.  In case you are wondering about the nickname there is only a tiny sliver of Woodinville that is in the Snohomish school district.  Anyway, that is beside the point.  Except in arm accuracy (where he projects to 64) he has already hit his defensive projections so leaving him in AAA would only help his bat.

1) I think the offense and the range make up for the glove-- he'll make 20-25 errors, though, so be ready to suck those up.
2) It would surprise me if the glove didn't improve 3 points or so this season despite your projections.

I'd be ok playing him in CF.

Your projections are off. With coaching and playing time at either level, both his bat and glove will continue to improve. It's tough to say whether i'd bring him up this season or wait another without knowing what the alternatives available are.

His defense in CF would be adequate this season, especially since (as dedalman mentioned) he will continue to improve his glove. Given good coaching, i'd expect 3-5 points easily. By next season, he'll be a 25-30 (+) play CF with adequate glove, good wheels, and a decent bat.

Patience is low though, so I'd try and hold onto him as long as possible, so might delay bringing him up.

Looks like a 2B to me.

I agree with boogerlips...he plays better at 2B, but you already have  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Wladimir Telemaco there.

That said, I don't think his bat will play up enough to cover his deficiencies in center, and looking at your team I see enough lumber in the lineup to go with him in LF, Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Oscar Daniels in center and either Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Pedro Perez, Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Dave Bale or Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Micah Hartzell in right.  This would maximize your defensive efficiency without sacrificing much in offense.

And not that you asked, but I think you should leave him in AAA for a season.  Your team looks complete without him, and another season to develop while you play superior players at the ML level is better for your team.  In fact, even without him your roster is crowded.  If it is me, I play Daniels in center to complement Telemaco at 2B, Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Trace Kendall at SS and Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Carlos Gonzalez at catcher for a solid mix of defense and offense up the middle.  Then I decide between Perez, Bale, Hartzell, Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Willie Clark and Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Humberto Flores to play LF, RF, 1B and DH, with the odd man out either as a pinch hitter/rest/defensive sub or else trade fodder.  But that is me, a guy with shaky win totals, so take it with a large grain of salt.

Wow Ted!  I am truly honored with the amount of effort you put in here.  Since you listed them all out here are my two lineups under consideration:
C Gonzalez
1B Hartzell
2B Telemaco
SS Kendall
3B Morgan Mitchell
LF Bale
CF Daniels
RF Perez
DH Flores

or

C Gonzalez
1B Hartzell
2B Tememaco
SS Daniels
3B Mitchell
LF  Bale
CF Walton
RF Perez
DH Flores

Walton will out hit Kendall by more than Kendall will out field Walton.   Still, sticking Walton at AAA until the all-star game will save a season of arb (I'll need to go that long since i brought him up to help me make sure I won the WC last season--it worked so I am glad I did).  Anyway, I had been leaning towards sticking him in CF and going forward, but you and others make some excellent points too.

I say that player looks like a 2B because of this thread.

Well, whatever else you do I would strongly suggest swapping Hartzell and Bale in the field. Hartzell's 62/70/71/70 is a much better fit for left than Bale's 62/41/75/63. Or put Bale in RF and Perez at 1B where his lefty glove will play up a bit (this sacrifices some errors in RF so I probably would not do it).

Interesting.  You are probably right.  Bale has proven he can't quite handle RF so 1b it is and LF for Hartzell.  I think you have convinced me that the right thing to do is send Wallace AAA and play him only VS. R and never more than 3 games in a row to manage his durability and then bring him at all-star break to give him CF for the foreseeable future.

I have been looking at the league leaders for errors in CF and have been a bit shocked at the numbers.  Of course the worst guys for errors have the worst gloves, but I am seeing plenty of center fielders getting every day play in CF with glove ratings around 68-75, and their season totals are right around 15 errors with the season nearly completed.  And I am finding the same thing when looking at career leaders for most errors in center field -- they have poor glove ratings for the position and yet despite this are still only making 15-20 errors a season.  This is a lot, sure, but consider that some of my guys with mid-80s gloves are making between 5 and 10 errors a season and the guys with 72 gloves and 15 errors look pretty good.  And on top of that the guys with poor gloves and above average range are still racking up the + plays.

This might change the way I go about finding center fielders.  I need to look at the numbers a bit more, but for now I am confused.
