I'm not smart enough to know the "how" of it. But you have to increase consumer confidence so the people actually buy things. That will allow the businesses to regain the confidence to hire people to cover the demand. Right now, a business says "It's just a good run. We'll suck it up, put in some OT and get it done" because no one believes the good fortune will last. And, of course, in order to spend you have to have. More taxation doesn't help. Or, as Obama calls it, "increased revenue". Nor do these government "rebates". Nor do government handouts. Everyone knows that they're short-lived. It's really just a circle that we're not in right now. If nothing else, education has to be addressed. And not just at the pre-adult level. We need a complete attitude change from "What can I get?" to "What can I earn?" I could go on but there's no point. We've got a lot of problems that have no quick fix.
