Bruce Bennett

Closer in season 17 (not restricted to save situations only).  66 appearances, 63.1 IP.

SetupA in season 18-22 with no closer role defined in bullpen.  Averaging 82 appearances and 115 IP per season.  Roughly tracking on the same pace this season though 126 games.

I'm getting 82% more IPs out of him since removing him from the closer role.

I assume, using him at SuA, you changed his Inning Avail and maybe Pitch Count/Pull Rating.

I wonder, if you labeled him Closer A, but used a SuA's Inning Avail, PC/Pull, would he pitch about the same number of innings as he does at SuA, or fewer?

Inning available changed when I moved him from closer to SuA, but pitch count and pull rating stayed the same.

So the question becomes, had you used him with the closer label, but the SuA Inning Available, would his innings have been similar to what you're getting using him as SuA? Or less than that?

Good point, but the fireman award is decided by a statistical metric, just like real life.  The awards that get voted for in RL get voted for in HBD, and so it goes with the stat based ones.   A question:  do gold gloves and silver sluggers get awarded strictly based on stats in RL?
Pretty certain Gold Gloves do not, or Derek Jeter wouldn't have any.
Take that back, you sorry SOB!!!!!

I know but how do you guys know how many innings are being left on the table by using a closer?
Some people have figured out how many pitches a pitcher can throw.  I'm not one of them.

However, you almost always use a RP in a game.    Mantle is the furthest along of my current worlds.    These two guys have almost the same DUR/STM combo:
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jorge Lucano
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Javier Palacios

Lucano is a closer and has 39 innings in 41 games.   Palacios is a SuA and has 71 innings in 70 games.   I think both have been underutilized(I'd expect 100-110 possible IP from both).   Now who wouldn't want another 30 innings, right now, from Lucano?

One of my guys in same world(61/28 DUR/STM):  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Trevor Kelley   52 games, 70 innings.   That's about right because I'd project him for around 90-100 IP.

I'm sorry, let me re-state that:  If the Gold Glove award were based on statistics showing who the most effective fielder was, THERE'S NO WAY IN HELL, Derek Jeter would ever have even been considered for the award, yet he has 5 of them, therefore, it must be an award that involves popularity and voting.  I've since learned that both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards are "voted on by the managers and coaches in each league."

And, on topic, if you truly want to maximize the innings you get out of an elite reliever, you should run them as a Tandem B every time they are 100%.  See:

The higher the dur/stam combo, the more being left.

211 innings; nice.  Did you get that out of using him as a Setup A, or in a Tandem role?

I seem to do better with set up A with high pitch counts.
But whatever floats the boat.

Set up A. The ******* gave him the finger for the Cy Young. Infidels.

"A question:  do gold gloves and silver sluggers get awarded strictly based on stats in RL?"

Rafael Palmeiro won the AL Gold Glove for first baseman in 1999.  He played a grand total of 28 games, 246.1 innings on the field.  So the answer is "no".

Even the HBD GG logic would have prevented that.

I have my SuA inning available set for the 6th inning.  My guess is that simmy would not bring in a closer in the 6th despite the Inning Available setting, and even if he did, there's no way he would finish the game.  Which essentially makes him a SuA.

But to your specific question: my guess is that he would have gotten more IPs with an earlier Inning Available, but still not as many as he does as a SuA.  I can't say for sure because I haven't really tried it with a guy like Bennett.
