A hypothetical situation Topic

If you two could focus the energy you're spending on this RSF on something useful, like fixing the economy or curing cancer, imagine what a better world this would be for all.

Shobob, I'm of two minds.  On one hand, it seems to me like WIS should be scurrying to clean up its mess when a program misfunctions and the game-code is at odds with the game rules.  I feel like I could sustain an argument for the spirit of the law (the rules) being more important than the letter of the law (the code).  (That phraseology sounds backward to me, but I -think- it actually fits in this circumstance.)  You suffered a negative effect that was contrary to any experienced player's expectations because there was a malfunction of the game code.  I think there's a winnable argument that you should be compensated.

At the same time, it seems to me that there's an argument that although there is a programming mess here, the game has managed to simulate a real-life situation that the current simulation engine overlooks, namely that sometimes there are kooky, inexplicable injuries that don't respond in any predictable way to rehab and from which players never return (your case, I assume, is a little better than that).  Though issue is to be taken with the process (and this should prompt internal action on behalf of WIS programmers) the result is a reasonable one.  Also a decent argument.

Aside from those two sides of the coin, I think there's also an outside factor that determines which argument WIS will always side with.  I can't imagine WIS ever amending player attributes.  Among the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of players scattered across thousands of teams in hundreds of worlds, setting a precedent by doing such a thing once would result in lots of extra work for them down the line.  So out of two (somewhat) reasonable ways to approach the problem, they inevitably choose the second.  "Completely understable" when it happens to someone else; "BS!" when it happens to oneself.
Thanks  for the well thought out response.

I've been waiting to hear from you, tec.  Firstly what's an RSF?  Secondly, I want your opinion.

RSF = retard slap fight

I'm too busy to dig into this thread to see exactly what your issue is, so I have no opinion at this time.

I've already discovered the cure for cancer.  I'm waiting for the government to pay me a fair price and then I'm going to throw all that money into the economy to fix it.

Talk to Obama.

Yes I'm trying to get some public opinion on this, but the sample size is a bit small as of yet.

edit:  this was meant to be a response to Mike's post.

And what will you do with public opinion?   Take it to WifS?  I think you will if it benefits your argument.

They can look at any time.

Of, if it supports you, you might just point it out to them, no?
3/6/2012 6:55 PM
Why shouldn't I?
3/6/2012 6:59 PM
Just making sure why you started the thread.    Not to have the glitch fixed but to have your player recover some ratings.

IOW, very self-serving despite admitting many errors on your part.
3/6/2012 7:32 PM
I was simply asking why I shouldn't.   You sure do jump to a lot of conclusions.
3/6/2012 7:34 PM
Not really.  This thread has played out pretty much how I thought it would.

You screwed up while trying to correct a previous mistake and made it worse.   You asked WifS for some help and they refused.  You brought it to the people in hopes of getting some ammunition to take back to WifS.   You've been pretty unsuccessful.

I didn't say they refused.  When did I say that?

I admit it's on me, and I was dumb.  The fact remains that I accidentally discovered a glitch.  How I discovered it is beside the point.  Why should I get punished for it?
I will give you a parallel.  A couple of years ago, I lost one of my best pitchers to a long-term injury.  I had 20/20 in medical and training but he still got wrecked.  Anyway, because his injury spanned two seasons when my end of the year recovery cycle was supposed to hit, he received no recovery whatsoever.  I was super ****** because he was practically ruined even though I did everything right to maximize recovery.

This was the original injury bug that many of you probably still remember.  I know I didn't have the only ticket that was sent in but I fought pretty ferociously with CS who continued to insist there was nothing wrong.  Some players never get a recovery . . . blah, blah, blah.  I never backed down and crushed their arguments one by one.  Finally, they kicked the ticket upstairs to tzentmeyer after I discussed it in the forums.  Do you know what happened?  He found the bug in the system.  Do you want to know what my reward was?

Nothing.  No recovery.  No retroactive boost.  Just a dead pitcher.  It sucked but I moved on.  And the bug was corrected.

And I did everything right, didn't try to game the system.  I will pretty ****** with them if they cave on this situation.

If they had given your pitcher a couple of recovery cycles, this thread doesn't it.

Are you pretending that it would have had they not refused?
