BUDGETS

Ok so when the season starts and I can set my budget I will be doing it like this,

Department Amount Notes
Player Payroll : $185 M 117
Prospect Payroll : $10 M 10
Coaches Payroll : $10 M 6
Domestic College Scouting Dept. : $10 M 14
Domestic High School Scouting Dept. : $10 M 6
International Scouting Dept. : $10 M 6
Advance Scouting Dept. : $10 M 6
Training : $10 M 6
Medical : $10 M 14
Total Allocated (of $185,000,000): $ M
I assume you are looking for advice, and here is mine here...
coaches can really only be that low if you have an great FI coach that is locked, and you are planning on only hiring AAA coaches as ML coaches.  Even then Id bring your coaching up to at least 8.

Training should go up to 14 with medical.  training and medical are both very very important.

Your HS and Coll scouting should both probably go to 14 because you have the #2 overall.  You can bring them down to 10 next year if you have as good a year as you think, if not and you do poorly you can bring them both up to 18 and get an awesome draft again...

I agree with everything else you are doing here though...

training keeps players from declining after they hit their primes...  training is super important if you have older players too...  it might be the most important budget item.

If you only have $36.4mil in contract obligations, there is absolutely no reason to budget $117mil.  Even spending very lavishly, you probably don't need to budget more than $85mil.  You should re-allocate that $32mil to scouting, training, and coaches (greeny was spot on there).  Also, if you are planning on trading, and are new at this (a combination I don't necessarily endorse), you should absolutely jack up your advance scouting budget.  You'll probably still get ripped off, but not as badly.

Four 15m players brings his payroll for 96.4m.   That, in itself, would be a good reason to exceed 85m.

Are you advocating spending $15milx4 on free agents?  I only play in one world, so my perception may be skewed, but my experience tells me that if you sign 4 players to contracts of roughly $15mil, you are probably getting two very good players who are worth big money, and two chumps whose value will run out before their contracts do. I can especially see this being true if it's a first season owner signing these FAs. Again, it may be my limited experience, but most instances of rampant FA spending that I see end up in medium and long-term ruin for the owners that undertake them.

If he's planning on really making a playoff run--4 $15 Mil players isnt outrageous. These shouldnt be $15 Mil per year deals, but significant bonuses and 8-$10 Mil deals on average.

I'd advocate doing much of the same thing Im trying in Guiness. Make sure your defense is top notch up the middle and at 3b.

You will get more value giving up a bit offensively at least at ss/2b/cf, and getting more 1 dimensional players that can bash at 1b/lf/rf than trying to get all around studs.

My problem in Guiness is I never really found the true offensive threats to fill out my lineup. I will be the best defensive team in the world though.

He definately needs to bump up HS or Coll Scouting.. No point wasting the #2 pick.

I'm advocating that there's more than one way to play the game.   Definitive statements like "there is probably no reason to spend more than 85m" aren't correct.   Neither of us know what his plans are.   I certainly didn't scout his world for FA.

Personally, I'd advocate a new owner play a season without signing big FA or making big trades.   But that doesn't seem to be in his plans.

The guys you plan to be your set up A's are horrendous options.  One guy will throw 30 innings tops, and the other is a AAA all-star.  You have zero chance to win a championship this season.  There is so much wrong with your current roster that you will be much better off rebuilding, and picking up low cost free agents towards the end of the free agency period.  Hate to see you go out and spend 80 million on free agents and abandon ship when you figure out this game isn't as easy as you think it is.

I have my college set at 14 mill, that is as high as it can go since this is the first season and I can only move 4 mill either way.

I never said I was doing this to win the WS this season, Im doing this to see if I can get them a playoff team in the first season.

You should have HS scouting at 14 as well.  If you are a competent player, this will be the last time that you get to draft so high.  Take advantage of it as much as you can.

He's never played a single season of HBD. That, in itself, is a fantastic reason not to spend $15M each on 4 different players.
