If you are planning on trading, you might get ripped off because of your inexperience and lack of advanced scouting. Be careful.
I have spreadsheets I use to determine that. I got the maddiesdad sheet so I will use it to lok at each player in trade proposals.

you have a spreadsheet that tells you how a player is going to develop?

No. I'm sorry misread that post.

I will already been in the league and started making a team. The other league still has 5 teams open. Sounds like there must be something wrong with that league if no one wants to join.

Now when the time comes to start re-signing my teams FreeAgents. Here are my free agents and their contract demands.

Knight doesnt seem to bad and is asking only 2.4M for one season,  I think he would be a LRB guy but I dont want to spend the cash on him so I will pass him up.

Alex wants 4.8M but i dont think I will resign him to that contract.

Now here is my main guy I will resign. Love the defense and he probably will hit in the 2 spot in the lineup. He wants 4.8M a season for 3 seasons but I think I will throw a 5 year contract on him and keep him for a while.

Well now here is Julian Castro and his bat is a little better then my current 1st baseman Martin, I think I may just sign him for his 575K demands.

Richards is wanting 3.4M and he doesnt have that good of a defense nor a good bat so I wont give him another contract.

Skeeter "skeet skeet" Durbin  very low contact but the rest of his batting looks good, his defense isn't the best for a RF but with a name like Skeeter I may resign his *** just for that.

I would let Castro and Durbin go.  Castro is ready for the old folks home and Durbin is a run-of-the-mill FA backup option.  Francisco is slightly better...I might think about paying him...but his offense is not that good.  As long as his defense holds up, though, he might be worth the money for a short contract.  Keep in mind that once he hits 31 or 32 (years of age) his ratings will probably start declining.

well thank you for your support. If you cant support someone then don't comment. Thank You Come Again!!

Sorry...maybe if this thread was called "Newbie trying to rebuild a franchise - need help"...then I would be supportive.  But it really takes a set of brass balls to have 0 seasons of experience and start a thread about how you are going to rebuild a losing franchise in one season.  Then dump one franchise because you didn't want to wait for a league to fill.  Then start another thread.

I've been playing this game for 2 years and I still learn something new every day from these forums.  And from what I know, I can see that your player evaluations are way off.  Like re-signing a 36 year old guy with 27 health (for f*cks sake), then dumping a stud SS because he wants $4.5 million in arbitration when you could trade that type of guy for just about anything.  Yeah, good luck with that.  You are going to wind up making typical rookie mistakes and either giving up after one season by saying "this game sucks" or you'll admit your arrogance and actually ask for help.

I have too much respect for this game and for the experts on these forums to say that I know better than anyone.  And that's after 16 seasons.  You're doing that after 0 seasons.  I wish you good luck and I hope that you succeed.  But you won't.  And when you don't, come back and ask for help and I'll be happy to help then.

I think its 90% clear this owner is an alias of an experienced owner. But there is a 10% chance that its a complete new guy who thinks it will be similar to MLB the Show, and expects to win 120 games each year.

I think some of you guys are being kind of hard on ebet, I wouldn't say that he is being arrogant.  He is saying trying a rebuild.  not "doing a rebuild in one season 'cause Im awesome!"  lol

Its possible he is an alias, but really unless he is joining a world that he's in already whats the harm in that?

Anywho,
Ebet, the SS is awesome like some have said and is worthy of a good deal.  and a 5 yr starting now will save you a mill or so per year rather then waiting until his 3rd arb, and hopefully he won't have declined too much by the end of it.

The FA CF guy is well worth signing too.  His bat is great for a CF, his glove is a bit low, but with his arm being that good it will more then cancel out his glove issue.  Sign him too.

Lastly, in terms of budget bring advance down to 6, and Int you need to look at how many of your opponents go after them.  If less then 1/2 of the world goes for them id do it if I were you.  With your salaries being so low especially so.  If your prospect cash CAN be in the top 3 its very much worthwhile going whole hog for them at least for 1 season, and gauge your interest as each season goes by.

greeny, like I said earlier, I think he should raise ADV. He plans on trading, so I don't want him getting ripped off.
4/8/2012 6:26 PM
If he's trading vets for vets, he doesn't need ADV.
