20 wins as an LRA??? WOW, thats amazing

Made less impressive by the fact that he's manipulated his pitching staff to do this . . . only thee starting pitchers in 57 games have gone 5 innings.

This is more of a "LOOK AT ME!!!" thread than anything else.

I thought about having a 4 starter rotation due to the fact my no. 1 SP is on the DL for a full season, my other starters have relatively low stamina, and I have a stellar bullpen. This resulted in Manny getting into a lot of games in the 4th or 5th inning. t's not so much a "look at me" (maybe just a little), but rather an option owners could use to utilize to maximize very good relievers.

And how many of the 20 would have been losses with a normal staff? Guess what I am trying to ask is do you think 12-14 of those wins would have still been wins but just for other pitchers?

I think breaking the statsheet is always fun.

Of course, this aberration is not just Manny's doing alone. There are a bunch of other pitchers who have helped him out, not to mention the offence. He has the happy situation of coming in for his 1-2 innings just at the right time. To his credit, though he does not have a loss , yet.....

Pretty awesome, nothing wrong with manipulating your staff.  If Verlander could throw every other day, Detroit would throw him every other day. 

He could throw every other day.   But there's no way that happens with a Verlander.

Think about it.   Every year, a handful of guys pitch in 75+ games.   A team could use a Verlander or CC to pitch the 5th/6th of every other game.   No team would ever do that in my lifetime.   Much like it would be much more effective to Rivera pitch the 8th and face the 4th/5th/6th hitters with a 2 run lead than save him for the 9th to face 7th/8th/9th.

There's nothing wrong with manipulating your roster to get the most AB's or the most IP's out of your best players.  In fact, that's what the smart owners should be doing.  But when a statistical anomoly becomes a natural byproduct of such manipulation, as what happened here, it should be pointed out that's how and why it happened,  No need to get everybody fawning over it.

It's still unique though.  I find it interesting to compare against a real life situation.  If this was going on with the Twins or something the talk radio would be ecstatic.  

I also love the projection...he's on pace for 57 wins or so.

I checked my worlds.  Most wins in a season was 36.  Using the old 3MT, I believe, that allowed a pitcher to vulture a bunch of wins by pitching the 4th-6th innings.
