What do you think of this future closer ? Topic

Julio Baez and he's down at my HiA farm level. Sorry I don't know how to attach him to this post.
Stam 18 Ctrl 91 90/87 L/R 3 pitches 75/73/50. His make up is only 56. I have a 14 adv scout. Current ratings : 18, 63 64/64, 62/65/39. What's his potential ? He's only 19 years old, was a comp pick last year.

Velocity is nice to have but if the dude already has splits in the 60s... should be solid.

My advice? Don't use him as a closer.

Make him a SuA and maximize his innings.

Thanks but Would a makeup rating of only 56 be a problem ?

Dont skimp on pitching coaches.  I think makeup is more of an issue when recovering from injury.

I (almost) never use a closer.  However in this case, I'd consider it.

I would hope his DUR (currently at 41) would go up... a lot, so you can use him regularly in either case.  My guess is he'll end quite effective, but give you limited innings.

I looked at 4 of my bullpen guys.  Their durability #'s increased 8, 4, 4 and 0 from their first season until this.

Assume that Baez doesn't get to 50 points.  With only 19 pitches, then he is a limited innings guy.

He has the splits to be a great setup guy, but not the Durability.

Maybe 60 innings or so from the guy.

He's probably a closer, 20 pitch max.  You may not be able to use him two games in a row, however.

yeah he looks like he'll be a pretty good 60 IP/year guy, maybe post an ERA ~ 3.50

he's somebody i'd like to use as a trade chip, you can buy something decent bc he is going to be a decidedly competent pro. but with so many effective RP's who can give 100+ IP you're not missing out on much by losing an arm with his STA/DUR w/o being dominant.

He'll be good but limited. If I have a playoff team I want him because he'll be very useful in the playoffs. If I don't then I would trade him for somebody more useful during the season.

+1, emphatically, to all the content in this post.

Looks like he will become an effective big leaguer.  I rarely use closers myself (cost too much for too little value) but may in this case if I didn't trade him.  Would make a nice solid SuB, who can chip in when the SuA is low on gas and needs a rest.  He won't be a SuA, too little stamina.

Something similar to this guy of mine, who is a SuB for a strong team with two stud SuA's that occasionally need a day off.  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Enrique Alfonseca
