mezirah,
I must say that if you are keeping your AAA studs down for another full season then tanking is what you are doing.
BobbyRayWade is a MLB All-Star type right now and has had two full seasons of mashing AAA. His offensive numbers are 84-96-76-68-59 and his glove is76-82-90-81
His AAA OPS is over 1.000 for both seasons. He'll hit .285 with 40 HR's in the bigs.
FranciscoFernandez is an ALL-Star catcher with a decent glove. 55-81-83-83-95 = .275-.370-.515. He's been over 1.000 in his two seasons in AAA. HIs glove is 72-77-71,(right now, and will improve) and he can play nearly everyday if you use your MLB catcher as a late inning defensive replacement. Most of us would sell our sisters for a catcher like that.
If you keep
J.T.Johnson down for another year of pitching work in AAA, most of us would understand. But not the two guys above.
BTW,
StewartCordova is done improving and better than your MLB SS's (both who are minimum wage guys). He needs to come up, too.
Wade and Fernandez will even benefit from MLB coaching, as they have growth left.
Really Wade and Fernandez should have come up after 20 games last year, but that wasn't your mistake.
But, this year, if you keep Wade, Fernandez and Cordova down for more than the 20 games necessary to get the extra arb year (which we all do), then you are indeed tanking. Enjoy the reputation if you do so.
They are clearly better than the scraggly guys you have playing at their positions, both are All-Star types, and since you have a roster filled with minimum wage guys you can clearly just move people and not worry about contracts.
Don't tank. Move those guys up. If you do tank, be honest about what you've done. There is kind of an existentialism to it. I tank, therefore I am.
