That's it right there.  He wants to do the "flood effect" of having all of his good players come up at one time as opposed to gradually letting them in.
He'll be in for a rude awakening when they all hit FA all at once, and he finds that he can't afford them all.

There's part of me that wishes there was a system where if you lose 125 games a year and your AA and AAA teams are clearly better, you get a email from admin stating "Looks like ownership has decided that you weren't doing enough to field a competitive team!  You've been fired!"

I understand you're paying $ to play this game, and this would cause a lot of paying customers to become upset, so I know it's impossible.

And the cycle starts all over again.  It's a very high/low type of approach, with a few great seasons and a ton of crappy seasons.  Unless you can trade away those guys for young talent immediately before they hit FA.  That's the only way bornlosers was able to keep his infamous team alive for such a long time.

Putting a guy on your 40 starts his option clock, not his arb clock.  The arb clock is triggered by putting him on the ML roster.

As long as you plan to promote the guy to the majors within three seasons of putting him on the 40, and never plan to demote him after he's on the ML roster, the option clock is less of a concern.  It's usually only a concern for the AAAA type players who tend to bounce back and forth between the minors and majors.
Well okay, so this is it right here. MikeT is stating 11 is the most control possible however I can tick off 3 option years as well so I'm looking at 14, and if 14 puts the guy at the end of his career, age 33, 34 or whatever why wouldn't I go this route If I am not ready to contend.

The former owners of your franchise wanted to start their competitive play a couple of seasons down the road too.
The previous owners didn't have any good players, it's all prospects that are now just coming of age. I should be able to put 3-4 guys in the majors, but if I wait 2 seasons I could possibly start service time on 5 guys. Waiting is depriving me of enjoyment but I'm rebuilding which is fun in it's own right. promoting the 3 aaa guys would prove for more entertainment value next season but I dunno, I'd rather wait and keep them longer. That is just good sense to me since this is a virtual club. I'm trying to create a dynasty such as the game advertises.

This is definately true, if they were real. I think the 'spirit of the game' is the biggest line in the sand when it comes to players here. I'm the kind of guy to stand on the roleplaying aspect and spirit side, but when I found myself in a position to make a call that would squeeze a couple more years out of all-stars at the end of their careers, I'm deciding to make that call just for now, and down the road be 'real' about my moves.

There's some players in the minors that get sheltered the same way, I look at guys like Lars Anderson who was drafted in 2006 and is still not being used on a team, he has 48 at bats with the Sox. The only crime with HBD is you KNOW they will be good.

Not trying to be disrespectful to you.  Sorry if it came across that way.  It's just that after playing this for 5 real years or whatnot, we've all seen this same discussion happen over and over.  And when people try to give advice to help guide towards the right direction, it gets ignored so that you can figure it out for yourself.  

What it comes down to is that we all want a quality product and in order for it to be quality it takes 32 owners playing the game as intended.  You are correct in that you aren't breaking any rules, but the point is that we are trying to tell you that your plan is not as great as you think it is.  There will be repercussions down the road that you may not quite understand right now.  The plan you have laid out is somewhat shortsighted.  Yes, you will have great prospects in the next 4-5 seasons due to the fact that you don't care if you win now and you will create a great team in 4 or 5 seasons with the prospects that you held back.  You will have a run with those guys for a while and then hit a wall when they all go to FA.  Unless you want to go through the whole process again (which is going to take 10-15 seasons) you'll quit your team and leave someone else with a giant turd.  It's not going to be a dynasty, it's going to be 5 or so seasons of fun followed by a toilet.

check out how deanod runs his teams or train or a few of the other long term owners (not me...I can't seem to figure out the winning ways).  These guys win consistently and have a real dynasty.  And they don't employ tanking methods.

I can appreciate what you are saying. And trust me I am listening and absorbing as much info as you guys share.

I just dont understand. It seems to me once I get my team up and running as long as I pick up 1 good international prospect a year I should be okay to replace players. I just want to get the system running.

When you say I will have problems later on, I don't get it. If I control a guy to the point where he goes FA at 33, he's pretty much done anyways. Even on the decline, if he's good I'll want him. A lot of league leaders etc are 32, 33 years old. If you are saying I have 4 or 5 guys go FA at the same time, what difference is that on my payroll if I have to pay them all on contracts anyways. Are you saying the 'shock' factor may be overwhelming where I don't plan ahead and my payroll can't absorb a brand new influx of 5 guys wanting 6 mil on average, and I don't have the 30 mil to dish out? because I think budgeting for this is possible.

I don't see tanking as fun at all or the way to go either. I just think I'm in a unique place where I had reigny as a previous owner and a couple of other real tankers. I'm just looking to make the most of what they did, and set up myself up for success. For now I see that as 'flooding' my major league in a couple of seasons. Maybe I'm wrong but I'll be evaluating today's points heavily. Thanks again.
