I have been considering trading http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3388897.  One guy has sent me like 20 offers and thinks I'm nuts when I turn them down. here is his latest, he claims this is a major upgrade for me.

I personally think its awful, though I sort of like Browning as he is a switch hitter, but I'm not looking for older players and I've told him this 20x. 

He also says Morales has a bad contract which I think is nuts.

Maybe I'm just a dumb newb though?

I wouldn't say it's a god-awful trade... but it sure ain't great.

He's lying to you about the contract, too.

So the player has a "bad contract" but he made you 20 offers for him.  That alone should be a red flag.

Anytime someone tells you they are gifting you an upgrade they are probably lying. Otherwise why wouldn't they keep their superior guys?

Also. If the contract is so bad, why is he SO desperate to add it to his franchise?

It's a bad trade.  He's offering you three replacement level players for a stud pitcher.

Morales is a fine #2 guy.  Keep him.  His contract is quite reasonable, although the $9.1M in the last year is steep.

Klesko gets you about 45 innings, Pilette gets ripped (splits are terrible) and Browning is a backup OF, at best.

Scott Young in your AAA is better than Browning.  Howard Price in AAA is about equivalent to Klesko.  And you can probably turn Daryl Moore, at High A, into a AAA pitcher in trade from someone that is better than Pilette (if you need a pitcher now).

Off subject but everytime I see "moethedog", I KNOW moe is the dog's name, but I always picture a dog getting trimmed up with a lawn mower...

too many parties back in HS i guess...

these kind of trade offers completely annoy me.  Tecwrg summed it up perfectly.  All three of those guys he's offering are bottom of the roster guys on a good team and are replaceable off of free agency once spring training starts.

If I'm trading a good player (and your guy has a couple 20 win seasons on his resume), I want one good player back, not 3 turds.

what kind of return should I be getting? A SP prospect who projects to be nearly as good as Morales? A position player who projects out to be all-starish? That is kind of where I'm at with some filler thrown in as well, maybe a RP prospect added on top.  I just don't feel I can give up Morales without getting a lot.  He can be solid for someone for a long long time.

I say that you have the right instincts there.  Don't give Morales up  unless you really like what you are getting in return.  Try to make sure that you get a "centerpiece" player back in the deal, who's value is comparable to Morales.  I wouldn't deal with this guy, he's trying to rip you off.

Or, just keep Morales.  He'd be a piece of a good rotation.

Yeah the problem in this world is that there is a superteam and I'm in the AL with them.  This team is going to dominate for the forseeable future.  Here is the team

Won it all 3 strait years, 62-16 this year.

So I want to build for the future.
