Rangerup's rebuild with 4 advance scouting Topic

I think I see a little sanity beginning to enter this thread.  So now I might like to add my two cents.

As a noob owner just starting his first HBD season, I have joined a world that a WIS friend of mine invited me to.  That's convenient.

If I were a noob owner looking to try out HBD on my own, and all I could find to read about it were threads about douchebag owners and tard worlds, I'd probably reconsider.  This is poor advertising.

I have a team in johnny5bench world. Rangerup spent a season there. During that season, ranger, was a model citizen. When he left, at the time, i wished he would have stayed. I never saw, or was exposed to, anything like this. I was writing for the blog then, and we did a "meet the owner series", we learned of ranger's service in the military, amoung other things. I invite anyone to check out the blog for johnny5bench, and learn a little about rangerup. I find it a little hard to believe that he is this evil world-wrecker like everyone says, but then again, maybe he is. I just never saw it.
Where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

Regardless of the problems between himself and stevehoggett, ranger has outed himself as an arrogant douche in the way he has attempted to defend himself in the forums across multiple threads.

Why any self-respecting commish would allow him into their world from this point forward is beyond me.

You won't have anything like is being fleshed out here happen in Riley.

Maybe.  Or maybe you'd know which worlds/owners to avoid thus not ruining your first experience in HBD.

You sound like a real badass.  Sure glad I don't have to face you in the street.

It's obvious, from your posts, that you are a badass.

Did you know that I'm a cowboy?  And an astronaut?

One of my favourite parts of dealing with Ranger is when he claims to dislike bullys, but then justifies his bully tactics.

You're a badass philosopher!!!!

So let me get this straight. Big bad wolf (me comes a long)...sheepdog (ranger) sees him, and says. Im going to give away my best sheep (reynoso) for some 3 legged sheep that can't grow wool. That will make the wolf run away? Hmmm didn't work. Guess I'll go find some different sheep to protect, afterall I'm the top sheepdog around, sheep will be begging for me to save them.

So here we are:

1.  rangerup still seems to think liquidating his team before he bails out on a league is somehow an acceptable behavior (I will not call it a "strategy").

2.  Not one other person has come to his defense.

3.  rangerup is a dude not to be trifled with.  His code of HBD ethics is a superior beast, indeed.  It certainly trumps all else.

4.  Mike is the HBD master of the clever retort.  He is also an astronaut-cowboy. But ranger is a wolf  and he knows that wolves eat astronaut-cowboys.

5.  I am the Walrus, btw.  Coocoocachoo.

6.  ranger has an affinity for taking very successful teams.  He has 6 teams right now.  #1 was a 90 win team when he inherited it.  #2 he took over in Y2.  It had won 80 games in the initial season.  He's turned it in to a reliable 100-win team.  Kudos.  #3 had 10 straight years between 104 and 125 wins, then it dropped to 96 wins the year before he took it over.  #4 averaged 79 wins in the three years before he took it over.  He led it to 57-66-71 win seasons. Is 24-26 currently. #5 was a losing team when he took it over, and he had two lousy seasons before he turned it into a winner.  Kudos here.   #6 had a 19-season streak where it had been below 90 wins just 3 times (82, 86, 88) then ranger got it.  He won 63 games in his first year, before rebounding to 86 this year.

ranger, you've turned one team into a winner.  You've inherited 4 winning teams, 3 of which have continued to win at a somewhat reduced streak.  You inherited one losing team and it has continued to lose.  I'm no expert, and you may well be a better GM than I.....but your modus operandi is certainly to grab dynasties (generally) and then (admittedly) to sell it off eventually and let somebody else have the dregs.

So, you benefit from managers who don't engage in your "HBD ethics" but don't extend their largesse to others.

Do what you want but at least be man (or wolf) enough to admit that you benefit from actions you don't espouse.

Not the GM you are,

moe

Does this mean you're building a fence because your previous strategy of giving away free sheep didn't work?
8/19/2012 1:12 PM
Obviously what I said didn't work (Not that I expected it to.) Moe, you're the man that was a very entertaining post and I think the way you described the superior ethical standards in which rangerup operates was spot on.  This post just keeps getting better, now we're talking about the Big Bad Wolf, not sure about the sheep. I always thought it was three little pigs but I guess even your mom had a higher ethical code and did not stoop as low as my mom in telling stories. Pigs were beneath her I guess....
