Trading for someone with zero options Topic

I want to trade for a player with zero options. Normally I know I would have to assign him to my big league club, but he has already cleared waivers. This is early season, not after the trade deadline on reversible waivers.

My question is if his waiver status will transfer. I don't want to get him only to be forced to put him on my ML roster. He is an emergency defensive SS that I don't want on my club unless my SS gets injured.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it does.

Yeah, I think he has to clear waivers again.   Which you wouldn't think would be a problem.

It might be a problem because he is a defensive SS who is like 90-90-86-86 if I remember correctly. The problem is that he is still on a minor league contract so people will claim him in a heartbeat, you would think. They may not even look at his options. They may claim him thinking they can throw him in the minors or just to see if they can get him by waivers. No big deal. If I have to I will use him as a backup CF and SS. My current backup can't hit or field. Thanks guys.

He cleared waivers once.

Here he is. Even better defensively than I thought. I think I'll put him in the majors and just use him for a defensive replacement.

I'd claim him but he did get thru waivers once.   If someone thinks they're going to stash him in the minors, they'll have to waive him.

I don't know how he got through to be honest. I would have claimed him. Anyway this trade is not a big deal. The big deal is unloading a pitcher returning from the DL. I had three starters go on the DL so I had to get replacements. I simply need to dump his salary for future financial health. So even if I end up waiving and losing this guy it's not a huge deal. It's more about dumping 6 million.

I'd also claim him.  Depends on the world and how a player with his skills are valued.

The guy looks like a starting SS. I will sacrifice a SS bat for GG defense.

Well, it's certainly going to be harder to sneak him through waivers after posting him on the Forum...

If he's at AAA right now though, shouldn't he be able to be assigned to the Minors without clearing waivers again?

I'd claim him also.

And I was thinking the same thing as meteu.

No.   A player with no options cannot be assigned to the minors after a trade.

Trade for him and then start him.  Man, look at all the + plays he's accrued in AAA.  Way more than your guy Lee.

He's terrific.

I can't imagine somebody would DFA him to start Heinie Lee.  Sheeeeesh
