Traded for Miguel Moreno this season, who is one of the bets pitchers in our worlds history, but he is on the tail end of his career with large contract. Was willing to take it cause I felt he could help the playoff run this and next season. Well injury bug hit in the playoffs he was 1 of 2 SP to go down for long term. He got hit hard.

Anyway I waived him so I could demote him. If I were to put him in Rookie or Lo A what are the chances he'd retire while having a guaranteed contract for a few more seasons?

He is just about worthless now as his DUR isnt good, his stamina isnt good, and he lost ratings that made him so good with the injury, and he is only going to decline more.

I've never seen a player retire when he has guaranteed money coming.

crap, well there goes that plan!

i planned on being stuck with his contract once i traded for him, so im not too ****** about the whole situation

"Encouraging" a retirement would be an easy way out of a bad contract, and therefore should never be allowed to happen.

I had one similar P - at the end of a HoF carrer - retire on me with a season left on a contract. But the amount was $850K or something like that. Not millions.

I can't imagine you have a pitching staff of 10-12 that are all better than that guy .  You're paying him, so you may as well get some use out of him.  He would be fine as a LR A or even a Setup A, with the ability to spot start, if you need him to.  Throw him on the 60-Day DL and you should also see SOME recovery of what he lost.

I'd need to see a link to believe this is true.    Unless he declined a player/mutual option.

OK, I can buy that.  I've just never seen a player retire while UNDER contract.
