In the 12 games I had in the PM2 games for Oct. 31, had 9 SV opportunities (8 for me), and 5 of them get blown.  Does this seem like a high rate for anyone else?
I blow numerous saves every set of games.  I almost assume its going to happen every game now.
You would think that save % would still be around 75% but I concur with you that it seems awfully higher in WIS for some reason.  It goes against the real-life thinking that the modern day closer position is over-rated and that any pitcher could close games 9 times out of 10.
10/31/2011 7:10 PM
I think that's true somewhat.  Some of the best "Closer" seasons I've ever had in WIS were by pitchers who were rated "SP's".  I had to use them as closers since the particular team I had didn't have a "closer".  Those guys nearly always over-achieve - then you take guys like 2003 Eric Gagne who should be "lights out" - yeah, right...

I know I just jinxed them, but my 2001 Mariano from 2000-01 Yanks is 6-6 in Saves, 0.00 ERA and my 2005 Mariano from my 2005-06 Yanks is 5-5 in Saves, 0.00.  And their set up also named Mariano are doing very well too.

my 10 "closers", 1 stud, 2 or 3 decent, the rest are total garbage:

Joe Berry, 1943/1944 Pirates (free agent):  12 IP, 1-0, 7 saves, 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP
Red Ames, 1908/1909 Giants:  8.2 IP, 0-1, 3 saves, 2.08 ERA, 1.62 WHIP
Billy Wagner, 2009/2010 Braves:  6 IP, 0-1, 5 saves, 6.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
Lynn Nelson, 1933/1934 Cubs:  6.2 IP, 0-2, 3 saves, 8.10 ERA, 2.10 WHIP
Willie Ramsdell, 1952/1953 Phillies:  5.2 IP, 0-1, 4 saves, 6.35 ERA, 1.41 WHIP
Barry Latman, 1958/1959 White Sox:  5.1 IP, 1-1, 1 save, 8.44 ERA, 2.25 WHIP
Frank Linzy, 1967/1968 Giants:  2.2 IP, 0-1, 1 save, 10.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
Grant Jackson, 1973/1974 Orioles:  6 IP, 0-1, 5 saves, 6.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
Mark Eichorn, 1985/1986 Red Sox (free agent):  15.2 IP, 3-1, 5 saves, 5.17 ERA, 1.60 WHIP
Dave Righetti, 1986/1987 Yankees:  14 IP, 1-2, 6 saves, 3.21 ERA, 1.64 WHIP

Through 28 games for the 58-59 Indians, the Colavito twins have a combined 23 HR and 67 RBI to carry them to a 20-8 record.
11/3/2011 9:49 AM
1994-95 Atlanta Braves thru 30 games have had 15 save opportunities... and have converted 5 of them .  Bullpen has somewhere in the neighborhood of 10+ ERA... WIS needs to fix this stupidity.

My teams, very unexpectedly, went 11-0 in tonight's pm 2 games.

I have already had one round of 0-11.

Did not think either would ever occur in this tourney (especially the 11-0 part)

Well you can thank my 94-95 Braves bullpen blowing the 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th with a C. Jones grand slam once 95 G. Maddux left the game...

G.McMichael enters the game to pitch.
C.Jones hits a groundball single to RF.

DP C.Knoblauch draws the walk.

DP F.McGriff strikes out swinging.

DP M.Whiten is hit in the leg by a pitch.

DP C.Jones hits a flyball grand slam to LCF.

Final score: Calhoop's 95-96 Braves wins 6-5.  So goes the failure of the my 94-95 Braves pitching staff sans the Madduxes...

My 1913-14 Giants are now 9-21.  The Mathewson twins are a combined 0-11 with a 5.76 ERA. I drafted the 1913 Version on my 1912-13 Red Sox team and he is 4-3 with 4.06 ERA.

The 1901-1902 Pirates were one of the teams that I thought would "cruise" to a division title.  Real-life stats, they had a .689 winning percentage - one of the highest ever.  Then you add a Free Agent of the quality of 1902 Ed Delahanty to that already awesome roster.

Right now, they're sitting at 9-21, twelve games out of first in their division...

I was shocked to see them with that record. I think there are gonna be plenty of divisions with three 80 or so wins battling it out.

As per my comments in the sitemail I sent out earlier about the “tournament leaders” page, this was Admin’s response:

The custom page we've done for the WIS tourney shows user record across multiple leagues.

What you're asking for is rather different, though. Trying to show leaders spanning multiple leagues is not something we've done in the past, although possible with quite a bit of effort.

How beneficial would a league leaders page spanning multiple leagues be for you and the users playing? Would that be the most important page you're asking for? Would it be used again in future multi-league tournaments?

Thanks

My reply  back:

A league leaders page would be incredibly popular amongst the owners in here! Not only in this tournament but in any future tournaments that I or anyone else puts together. I honestly think it would be an extra incentive that could even get owners that are "on the fence" to take the leap and sign up for something they may have balked at before.

I don't know about the kind of effort or work you're referring to since I know nothing about programming but, if it can be done, I and all of the others would be extremely grateful.

I’ll keep you posted on their answer…

Just got this answer back...

"We will see what we can do when time permits. It involves quite a bit of custom work.

Thanks"

with my recent 0-for, all my teams are sub-.500
11/5/2011 5:04 PM
At 40 games I'm 448-512   7 teams in 1st , 5 teams in 2nd, 6 teams in 3rd, 6 teams in 4th

The surprise my best team SF Giants 89-90 at 27-13

and the big deception for me my Astros 98-99 at 10-30
11/7/2011 2:39 AM
Though 40 games my teams are 504-456(.525).  We have 10 in 1st, 6 in 2nd, 4 in 3rd, and 4 in 4th.

Impressive teams: 58-59 Indians 28-12(With 4 FA), and 2000-01 Yankees 27-13(Thanks to monster FA '01 Barry Bonds)

Now here is the story on my closers, some have been shocks in a good way, some are terrible, but the rest of the bullpen is even worse.  I will list them in order from earliest to most recent.

John Clarkson 1-2, 6SV, 11+ ERA--He's gone as soon as I figure out someone to take his spot
Bill Bernhard 0-2, 6SV, 3.38 ERA--Best of many bad options
Henie Berger 1-0, 7SV, 2ERA-Locked in right now
Ray Collins 0-4, 9SV, 7+ ERA--Looking for another option
Hooks Wiltse 0-0. 4SV, 4.05 ERA--Not many chances on one of my worst teams, he'll get some more time
Dickie Kerr 0-1, 13 SV, 2.16--Awesome so far
Howard Ehmke 0-0, 9SV, 4.50 ERA--Best option
Pat Malone 2-2, 9SV, 2.50 ERA- Staying
Johnny Allen 1-5, 8SV, 7.41 ERA-- Best ERA in a terrible bullpen
Dizzy Trout '45 1SV, 0.00 ERA, just ook over as closer(Now all 3 starters and the closer are named either Newhouser or Trout, gotta help the 44-45 Tigers)
Jack Banta 0-2, 12 SV, 6.23 ERA, 2 bad outings make his stats look worse then they are, he has been very good otherwise
Steve Gromek 1-0, 11 SV, 3.24--Great find so far
Hoyt Wilhelm/Jack Harshman 3-0, 12 Saves, sub 2 ERA--Dynamic Duo on my best team so far
Bill Dailey 1-2, 6SV, 1.74 ERA
Dick Hall 1-0, 12 SV, 1.45 ERA
Tom Hall 1-1, 11 SV, 2.60 ERA
Rollie Fingers 2-1. 2 SV. 1.23 ERA--2nd Rollie Fingers to give the closing job for the 75-76 A's a shot
Elias Sosa 1-0. 6SV, 0.66 ERA
Bobby Castillo 0-0, 10 SV, 3.00 ERA
Rick Anderson 0-0. 5SV, 2.45 ERA
Antonio Osuna 0-1, 11SV, 2.33 ERA
Mariano Rivera 1-1, 6SV, 2.35 ERA
Mariano Rivera 1-0, 9 SV, 1.69 ERA
Ryan Madson 0-2. 9 SV, 9.33 ERA--Trying to find a new option
