I think we pretty much know what we can expect from Ray, he is an ageless wonder.  We pretty much need KG and Pierce to be awesome like they were last year and for Rondo to stop being suck a ******** on offense, so I basically agree.

Stiff is the last word I'd use to describe Wilcox, that word is reserved for Shelden Williams.  Wilcox can move, jump, and catch the ball, so he doesn't exactly have the features of your average plodding big.  He's just a massive turnstile on defense, but the Celtics seem to think they can hide him a bit in their system so we'll see how that works.

I don't know why we didn't bring Delonte back fwiw.

edit- Delonte is the 2nd straight year we've lost a bench player because he didn't feel loved enough.  Team would be so much more beast with TA and Delonte right now.

TA for sure.....that was a mistake

Bass will be a great addition to the team.  I also like the Dooling pick up for them.

That said, JO's suck-titude and KG's age will be the downfall of the team.

C's played a helluva game last night vs MIA without the Truth.  Some really bad calls (2 terrible out of bounds calls and a brutal foul called while Bosh bobbled the ball away) killed the team.

Heckuva game only because Miami can't hold 20 point leads.

Haha!  Yeah, Boston had nothing to do with it.

Please. Celtics almost won and didn't even have Pierce there....well he was there, just not in a jersey.

Woulda been nice to steal one of these opening games, but Celtics look fine given that their best player has been out and the worst player in the league has been in.

Hopefully we handle business against the Hornets tonight, and Pierce is ready for the home opener.  Hornets are so so bad, but back to back road games are brutal, Celtics only favored by 2.5

That white guy is pretty good defender. So you guys have that working for ya.

Celtics are done as legit contenders.  I am all for a fire sale.

lol be more reactive.

obviously last night sucked, but i'd sort of like to see when our best player is in as opposed to the worst player in the league.

firesale would be retarded, they can't get any value out of any of their vets.  riding it out is the correct move.

100% agreed.

Wish we could somehow pawn JO off on someone.

I thought they should rebuild before the season began and I've seen nothing that should change that opinion.  The Celtics are an old team that still has the same offensive problems they have had for years, but now don't have the legs, conditioning, etc. to be the elite defensive team that they have been.  Getting Pierce back isn't going to fix any of those problems.

The simple truth is, if you aren't a legit title team or a team on the way up, than you should be rebuilding.  The Celtics, Spurs, and a few others are in that no mans land of good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to ever be better than a first or second round exit without major changes to the roster construction.

The Celtics have 3 expiring contracts of varying sizes on players that could still help a title contending team win this year.  If they don't move them before the deadline they won't be able to utilize them as assets at all and it will set the rebuilding process back.  I don't know what sort of value Allen, Garnett, and O'Neal have, but if the C's can get any sort of young players or draft picks for them (especially if it doesn't affect next summer's cap space), they should move them and just go into full bore rebuilding.

so you think all but like 5 teams should tank?  that seems pretty reasonable.

JON has no value outside of an expiring contract

KG is such a large expiring that he's basically unmovable

Ray is really the only movable piece, but I doubt anybody is offering > a late 1st rounder, which isn't that important since we're already going to have 2 late firsts and we can probably re-sign him for cheap next year.

Seriously, try building a realistic trade where Ray or KG goes to another team and the Celtics become good.  It's not gonna happen.

Sure we're going to be huge dogs against the Heat and Bulls, but we were huge dogs to the Cavs and Magic in 10 and beat them anyway.  There is value to making one last run, even if it might be a feeble one.  There is not much value to dumping our vets for odds and ends.

Agreed.  Celts only real move is to get the 8th seed and make one last run.

They're more likely to get the 3 seed than the 8th seed.

probably 4 or 5, could see them slipping to 6, but it would be a reallly rough fall to slide to the 8th seed since that would mean they're like a .500 team.
