All the rookies i checked in that league were a "1" in offense.  Perhaps that correlates to the usage (not the efficiency).

Yet another example of why random rookies should NEVER be used.
2/11/2014 9:51 AM
i can understand why some people dont like the presence of rookies - creates more randomness and gives some team higher margin of error randomly.

but i think presence of rookies makes thingsmore realistic - which is what its all about, isnt it? - in that each season random rookies drafted on random teams do better than other rookies, and some contribute more than others.

fyi i have not had a good rookie lately, two of mine shot under 40% with about 5 TOs/48m in my last OL

No.  It's about "What If..."  What if I can build a team around 3 or 4 all-time greats like Wilt, Barkley, Magic & Pippen... not what if I can build the 1983 Denver Nuggets.

Had this rookie in my most recent league.....certainly not 70% efg but probably the best I've had overall.  He was "1" offense with fairly high usage.  I still don't know what that rating means....  He was actually beat out for ROY by somebody averaging about 29 points and 20 rebounds per 48...also a "1" offense.  Rooks can be interesting but they don't fit when you're paying to Sim historical players against each other, and then complete randomness comes in to play. Players with 1 and 2 ratings outperform those with 3 or 5, players at the same fatigue level can't play similar minutes, etc.

just playing devil's advocate: I think the point of rookies (from the company standpoint) is to alleviate the pain on new users who draft a team (who dont understand the leeway for minutes when drafting) and start the season without enough total minutes. I've done this before (many years ago, before rookies were implemented) and the season quickly goes to hell. Theres just nothing you can do when everyone on your roster is getting progessvely more fatigued, and by 30 game mark there was no interest in following that team anymore. For a new user, this would quickly turn them off to the site. I think thats why there are rookies

Same team as "1" rated 09-10 Batum Rookie...this one has a "4" offensive rating and took about 15% fewer shots, however assists/ 48 were 13.7....do we actually know what the offensive rating correlates to?  If it does tie to something the results don't seem to shake out.

looks like 03-04 Jeff McInnis 1096 minutes 17.2 usage% 29 ast%, so I guess the offensive rating doesn't correlate to usage, maybe it correlates to ast%........by the way, I'm figuring out which players they are in the same manner you figure out the AAA players in the mlb sim (put all the known information in the searches)

That may be their reason, but it's not a good policy IMO.  I don't like the idea of introducing more randomness.  A new user should read the forums and play in at least one exhibition season before playing in a full season.

The minutes could be filled with those horrible 1-1-1-A-A (or whatever) rookies just as easily, but they elect to insert even more randomness into a game that should have almost none.
