The decline of WIS Topic

I've only been on the site a couple of years but I have to agree all the negativity from the veterans probably does turn off prospective users but since their complaints are valid and since admin never responds or addresses their concerns even when the owners provide easy fixes the fault still lies with the site - my opinion but like I said Im relatively new to these parts so take it for what its worth
Veterans like chester_o and some others were a real problem for you

I think discussing a total overhaul from 5 years ago that created more problems than it fixed isnt exactly worthy of a pat on the back

AMEN!

I was merely pointing out that they did an overhaul, which means they were at one point making changes.

Personally, I liked the old way things were done better. Back then there was a specific formula for winning, but there were a lot of players who fit the bill and so you saw at least some different winning teams.

Now there is a specific formula which seems to breed success, but it's predicated almost entirely on using combinations of a few specific players.

I've found 3 posts total from admin in the past 12 months.  Very indicative of the effort put into this sim.  They dedicate prolly 2-3 days max to the SIM every year.  I'd say 2-3 weeks of work over the past 3-5 years.  It's no wonder the product is inferior.  Make it right and we stop complaining.  Ignore it and we stop buying.

meanwhile check all the threads with actual veteran advice on team building (ash) or where veterans respond to newbie questions - sure there's grousing but even the grousers are more responsive and helpful to the needs of the newbs than admin is

Agree, I thought that the version of the sim immediately before the overhaul was actually pretty good. It didn't have a lot of the features now, but it also didn't have a lot of the current issues, either.

There really is a lot of truth in the old K.I.S.S. theory.  This SIM is just another great example.

The random up and down B.S. is more than I can take.  I'll do my Progressives until I run out of teams, but if WIS hasn't shown they give a d@mn about their product until them I'm done.  It is impossible to "coach" a team where absolutely nothing is even remotely consistant from game to game.  Honestly, I'd be more inclined to stay if every team I put together s*cked from start to finish, but these 6 game winning streaks followed by 5 game losing streaks followed by more of the same, is just more than I want to try to handle.  I've made a lot of excuses for WIS over the last 10 1/2 years, but everyone has their breaking point.  It's been fun.  I'll wish all of you the best when I leave.

Hello. I would like to inquire about the lack of an important stat being displayed for players as well as the fact that we can't search for it or sort by it in the draft center.

That stat is tov%, or turnover %. From the knowledge base:

2. # Now that we have picked a player, we must determine what he will do with the ball. There are three things he can do: turn the ball over (3), shoot (5) or be fouled (4). Every player has a real-life turnover percentage, field goal attempt percentage and times fouled percentage that is relative to his total number of actual possessions. At this point, many factors can adjust those percentages and affect whether we go to step 3, 4 or 5. Generally, we will view the chance that he shoots as the amount remaining after modifications to fouled percentage and turnover percentage. These factors include: the man defending the player, the rest of the defense, the type of offense, the type of defense, a player’s fatigue value, any team under-possession penalty and the player’s over-possession penalty.

So, from this section of the knowledge base, it is turnover % that determines a player's likelihood of turning the ball over - not turnovers per 48 minutes, total turnovers or assist to turnover ratio (the only things we can see as well as search/sort by). In addition to this, it tells us there's a thing called fouled percentage which tells us how likely a player is to get to the line.

With the normalization that you have attempted to put in place, owners cannot rely on either totals or per-minute stats to determine how good a guy is at getting to the line or how prone he is to turn the ball over. We have to break out a calculator or surf the web to try and find the information that we need - assuming the info is out there (players before turnovers were kept as an official stat, for instance).

It would be like using the current system for rebounding without giving us the oreb% and dreb% percentages. We would simply be guessing on the old players (prior to offensive rebounding being kept as a stat in the NBA) and for the most part have to put way more effort into building teams - so much so, that, I would bet many owners would give up.

Since this sim is driven by the advanced statistics, we need to be able to see, search for and sort by all of these advanced statistics.

It is with all of this in mind that I beg of you to please, give us the ability to see a player's tov%, as well as their fouled%, and to be able to search for the stat in the data base as well as sort our results by it. I believe this would help every owner better understand the sim and quit needlessly blasting WIS about it.

These are well thought through comments. We want to let you know that they will definitely be presented to Admin for their consideration and review. Many thanks.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Suggestions are compiled and evaluated once a month. They are then prioritized and added to our future feature set lists we use for future updates.

Feedback and suggestions are what help us continue to improve our site and our games. Thank you for taking the time to help us improve.

It's been almost 2.5 years and still nothing. Any updates on when the NBA sim might see some of these improvements you've been stockpiling?

No, we do not have anything to announce at this time.

I don't agree with everything all3 (or anybody) says, but I can certainly agree with the frustration in general.
8/10/2012 12:41 AM
Kind of like Shaq taking 8 shots in 30 mins, while Kidd goes 6/18 and Wade goes 10/31 (both teams uptempo of course)?  Is that the kind of random crap that has nothing to do with the usage stat I drafted?!

39 trips to the line and so called 'rebound logic' - this loss brought to me by your incompetence

Thanks for the note. There can be no response to this sort of comment. If you can construct a normal question, or dialogue, Admin will get to view it and respond.
6/18/2012 12:57 PM felonius
that's the problem isnt it? the entire board and all your nba users have been waiting years for any kind of response to so many different suggestions and requests and have gotten nowhere and nothing from you - after so much neglect what more should you expect from us but contempt?
6/18/2012 1:36 PM Customer Support
Thanks for the follow up. Dissatisfaction is fine and fully understandable and your comments have some truth to them. WIS has more time now to devote to its own products so in the time ahead you should be seeing some updates to the current products along with some new products that have not been available before.

'more time' starting when? - this conversation took place a month ago (almost) I just had a particularly random cyclle wherein all the flaws of your sim where on display in their full in-glory - more time when?
7/14/2012 3:54 PM Customer Support
More time is being given over to WIS products. But, and you are aware, that 'more time' doesn't mean 'unrestricted time' devoted to your specific game. If you can remain patient there will be changes and when they are ready to be implemented notification will be published the forums and 'Release Notes' Thanks.

Based on what I'm seeing here, it seems there may be reason to believe WIS is working to improve the NBA game for us (as well as other parts of the site it seems).

I agree nothing is perfect and improvements would be good. I agree we should let WIS know we're looking forward to improvements. For now, though, I'll be patient and hope positive changes will come in the near future. I enjoy this game for now; I hope to enjoy it even more soon.
