16 x 16 - Modified, v11 (Full) Topic

This theme is very is similar to the popular 16x16 theme. Except, instead of 16 owners each nominating one player, 8 owners (in each league) will nominate 2 players each - one hitter and one pitcher. So there will be 16 AL players and 16 NL players nominated. Read below for more...

16 x 16 Modified, Version 11
1946-2011 AL & NL Seasons Are Available
NEW CAP --> $110 Million Salary Cap
DH = NO
Full-Time Player Rule = Yes
Top 3 Salary Rule = Yes

This is a 16 team league. Each owner will nominate 1 hitter and 1 pitcher (from the same league, AL or NL only) that has played between 8 and 11 seasons* in their career. The player must have played at least 8 but no more than 11 total seasons, regardless of which years and which league those seasons occured. (This eliminates any overlap of the 12x12 theme). Of those 8-11 seasons, at least 8 must be for an AL team or from an NL team and must fall within the season range 1946-2011. Exactly 16 players (8 hitters and 8 pitchers) from each league will be nominated.

Within each league, each owner will draft a different season of each player nominated to be on their team. So all 8 teams (in the league) will own the same 16 players, but each with a different version of that player. You may only draft seasons of players from your league. Example: If an AL nominated player has 11 seasons, but only 9 are with an AL team, then only those 9 seasons are eligible to be selected. The other 2 seasons are "dead" and will not be used.

* Note that if a player played 7 seasons, but played for 2 different teams in one season (same league), that counts as 8 seasons for purposes of this theme (you'll understand why after reading the remaining rules).  Similarly, if a player player 11 different seasons, but one of those seasons was with 2 teams, that counts as 12 seasons and the player is not eligible for this league.

Full-Time Player Rule: Hitters must have at least 5 (eligible) seasons with at least 400 PA/162. Pitchers must have 5 (eligible) seasons with a combination of either 150 IP/162 and/or 40 games played. This will eliminate guys like Mike Mordecai and Elmer Riddle.

Top 3 Salary Rule - The season you select for the player you nominate must be one of the player's 3 most expensive seasons.  Duplicate salaries (i.e., players who played on multiple teams in one year) both count in this top 3 calculation.

A regular lineup will be used for nominations so we'll need C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF and 8 Pitchers. For players who played more than one position, there will be some leeway on which position he will qualify at.

Upon signup, list ONLY ONE of your two players (do not list the year). Once, all 16 owners nominate one player, the second player draft will commence in reverse order of listing the first payer. Once all players are nominated, then site-mail me which of their seasons you are going to take. Returning owners get first dibs at players, on a first-come, first-serve basis. (You may change your mind on your selection up until the last player is chosen, but you still are locked in to your draft slot for your 2nd player). Once all 8 owners in a league have chosen, I'll post the seasons selected and the draft order. We'll have a 14 round draft to select the other 7 seasons each of the nominated hitters and pitchers. Draft order for each round will be based on the cumulative salary going into that round (lowest salary drafts first).

HERE'S WHERE STRATEGY COMES INTO PLAY
The remaining 9 roster spots must be filled with teammates of your drafted players. These teammate slots are like gold, so use them wisely. They must be from the same season of your drafted player... no twisting. Nominated players (within the same league) cannot be used as a teammate. If you draft a player season with 2+ teams, you can choose which of the four versions of that season you want to use (Team A, Team B, Full or Partial), and can only take teammates from that team. Only one Team A and one Team B season may be chosen (i.e., if I take Team A - Partial, Team A - Full is off the board). This is how a player with 7 seasons, including one multi-team season can be allowed. Or similarly, a player with 6 seasons, w/ two multi-team seasons is allowed, etc..

When the draft is completed, you will have 16 drafted players (including your 2 original nominations) and you will then add 9 teammates (chosen from the 16 teams of those 16 drafted players) to get a complete roster of 25 players. You can use more than one teammate per drafted player and many drafted players won't have teammates represented.

*** A popular modification was made in version 4 - the addition of a salary cap. This theme will drop from the traditional $120 million to $110 million salary cap.  Be very careful in your player selection during the draft. In the late stages of the draft, you may find yourself stuck having to roster a high-priced stiff that would put you over the cap, forcing you to downgrade one of your key teammates.

Salary Cap = $110 million

Here's the best way to determine if a player is eligible.

1. For hitters, click on UTIL position and type in the players name in the search screen
2, Min Games = ALL: 0 and check the box for "Include Secondary Positions"
3. For pitchers, click on SP/RP
4. For for hitters/pitchers, set Season Type = Full/Combined
4. Count how many seasons are shown --> This must equal 8, 9, 10 or 11

Then of those listed, count how many are in the AL or NL.  Then eliminate any seasons before 1946.  This number must be at least 8.

Then, make sure that you have at least 5 full-time eligble seasons (400 PA/162 for hitters or 150 IP/162 or 40 GP for pitchers). Eligible means that the seasons must be part of the appropriate league.

Since this is essentially a 2-round draft, I have not placed a restriction on when I will select my player.  Once I figure out who I want, I will post it regardless of how many players have been selected.
