Completely. When this was created, ISU had just completed a pretty good run on NT's and had a EE, but they are only a B... Texas way too low. Especially when you look at some of those Big East schools and the ACC, you know the Big 12 generally got the shaft in general, although (like Northwestern) Baylor is too high.

In general the ACC is way too high.

If Northwestern (or Baylor) were any lower, why would anybody ever take those jobs?  If one is going to enter a major conference in a game that costs money to play, one should at least have a reasonable expectation that there's a chance for success at a given school.  Putting NW or Baylor any lower would pretty much guarantee that those schools would be SIMs for eternity, and that's not good for anybody.

Total aside, but Baylor has been better at basketball the last few seasons in the real world than 2/3 the ACC and a lot of other major conference teams.  So perhaps Baylor being too high is a poor example.

How does the baseline prestige work?

How does the baseline prestige work?

It essentially takes a baseline prestige and compares it with what your "real" prestige should give you and pulls up/down based on that. For example, a team with a B- baseline will take at least 2-3 deep runs in a 4 year cycle (along with no missed NT seasons) and some draft picks to get to an A+ while a team with an A+ baseline will really only need to consistently make the 2nd round or so over a 4 year cycle.. that's why the "elite" schools like Kansas, UNC, Duke, Arizona (lol), UCLA, Michigan State, etc hardly ever fall below an A-..

The Oklahoma Sooners are an A- ? In football, maybe. Or did Billy Tubbs win 3 or 4 NCAA titles back in the day, and I drank too many 40oz malt beverages when I was in college and destroyed the brain cells where I used to store that knowledge?

Oh -- and Indiana is an A-, but Illinois is an A+. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggght.

And it's a lot easier to drop to a cruddy prestige level than it is to rise up to a really good one.  IMO.

Just to make sure, baseline means an NT appearance prestige resets to baseline?
