Trace Hauser has the kind of projections that always seem to disappoint in HBD. Nothing unusually good, but nothing particularly bad except perhaps for a bad split against LHPs. If he were a real life player I'd expect him to average 400-500 ABs a year and have at least one year where he was hot enough to sneak into the AS game before having a horrible second half.

But in HBD, I wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce around like a yo yo between AAA and the Show, waived when he ran out of options, and eventually released when he hits arbitration.

Now check out his Awards page from his 5 years in the minors: 5 AS games, 4 MVPs, 4 silver sluggers, 3 ROYs, and even a GG thrown in for good measure.

I know it won't translate. But I've got to give this kid a shot at sticking on the major leaguer roster this season.

He'd be a good platoon dh/1b. His batting eye is pretty good, so you can expect him to be productive.

I'd have not problem putting him in the bigs. But then I'm not a very good manager.

If you have a really good slugging 1B with horrid defense he'd be a perfect defensive replacement at 1B and he's not an awful hitter, though not good enough to start.

He makes it under my "any three categories in the 70s" rule. He should do just fine.

sounds like a sorta weird rule.

would you start a 70/0/70/70/0 guy? i would only give him a whirl if he played really strong defense at SS.

even if he was 85/20/85/85/20, i wouldn't start him at DH/1B/LF/RF.

of course, this guy has barely passable ratings for the ML level. maybe he will overperform if you give him a chance...it seems that some players inexplicably play out of line with their ratings.

I suspect that used mostly against RHP he'd put up a .800 - .825 OPS in the bigs. A useful player, but not a star.

85/20/85/85/20 hits better than .325 every season, guaranteed. Put him in a park that boosts 1B/2B/3B and holds homers down, and he can play any position on the field for me.

i'm skeptical of your guarantee, but assuming it's true, would you play a .325/.350/.375 guy at a power position? cause i sure as hell wouldn't, regardless of ballpark.

and this guy clears your standards by a mile. the 70/0/70/70/0 guy would be downright awful- something like .265/.280/.270

Jeremy Gutierrez

For those of you who don't want to click, ratings are 83/72/57/58/75

This guy has similar, maybe slightly better ratings, and a career OPS of .767 in 2400 AB. I don't know if your worlds are different, but this kind of guy is not particularly useful. I thought he'd be much better, but now I'm ready to finally get rid of him.

Matty Cervantes is a very similar player. 86/27/87/83. Career .321 BA with a career .800 OPS (obviously made better by his batting eye, but still). I know some people put tons of stock purely into OPS but I'll take a guy who hits in the .320s and let him knock in high OBP guys all day.

Depending on the league he could be a very decent option. I think being y and the speed pushes him towards being useful. Platoon him with a Rh masher and call it good.

Don't really give a crap about power positions in particular -- if you have enough power in your lineup it doesn't matter what position they play.

Agreed. Deanod - I concede your point in real life. In HBD, you can get 2B who hit 50 bombs.

I agree. On my team I have a pretty soft hitting LF but has great speed and leads the world in doubles, though only hits 20 HRs a season. I've also played a RF with 17 power as a leadoff man, and had a RF with 0 power in the 2-hole. But I get power from positions that others don't usually get it. My CF has 96 power and my SS has 87, so I get away with it.

My team also sucks... so maybe I should take a second look at this strategy!!
