Are you serious?

Yes. Trying to generate discussion on an otherwise boring Monday morning.

Assuming normal draft distribution, etc and that I'm drafting somewhere in the range of 17-32 ...

I'd be ok with taking him in the second round; horrified if I used a 1st rounder on him.

He'll be heartbreakingly inconsistent with some really good years that will be offset by some pretty bad ones.

I wouldn't rank him in my top 50 for fear that I might get him.

I wouldn't touch him with any pick still. 21 is just too terrible. I think only having 10 M is skewing the projections some as well. I can't see this guy getting near 96 with his vR if he's only 55 now (even if he is only 18).

first overall.

Not directly related but....would you guys rather have a pitcher with equal splits, or vR better? I'd rather have a 50-70 split hitter over 60-60 and platoon him, but for a pitcher I'd rather have them be equal. I've found the damage done to those types by y batters seems to outweigh their strength against righties, at least for the guys I've had.

Would it matter if he was a SP or RP? I've never used a specialist, but my experience has been with SP anyways.

Assuming he'd sign for slot money, I wouldn't mind taking a flier on someone like with a third round pick, perhaps even second round if I'm drafting late and it's an otherwise weak secondary type player draft class

A) I agree about the scouting budget. This guy probably won't project anything like his stated numbers.

B) The prospect in question, if scouting turns out not to be the problem, seems like he might make a pretty decent ML mop, because he projects to a very high stam/dur combo and so would be an innings-eater, and I generally prefer mops of the talented but highly inconsistant variety over the consistantly highly mediocre variety.

C) It's hard to go too far wrong taking a SP with a high OVR, because there's always an owner somewhere who overvalues OVR and will overpay in a trade.

D) As for pitching splits, I'd rather see closer to even splits from SP and closers, but a mix of splits from other RP, with some who blow away RH and others who dominate LH.

I found this guy in my world and he's actually done pretty well. But his control is about 20 higher than the pitcher in question's will get to...

1) Agree that a 3rd round flyer would be OK if he were actually going to reach those projections.

2) No way he reaches those projections, because (a) there's too far to go on those splits (+41 VsR?) and (b) very low ratings, at least for hitters, seem to hardly improve at all despite projections, so I bet the control never gets above 14 or so.

3) I reviewed all 16 SP in OCD with VsR at least 20 greater than VsL. Every single one faced more RHB than LHB; the average was a 43/57 split. So I think you want VsR higher rather than even splits for an SP.

you can find mopups on the ww for 327k if you're that interested in him

I'm just saying, that's what his profile looks like to me: an above-average mopup. Assuming he reaches those projections.
