The steroid era is over Topic

Today's update included " Reduced upper end of home run frequency. The steroid era is over."

Just wanted to point this out as it is potentially very significant.

Small ball is back!

Bunt baby, bunt!

I wonder how Home Run frequency will have a effect. I noticed defense will play a larger role with players getting many more plus plays on the season. That could definitely play a factor in teams with good defenses.

This is by far the most significant change in this update. I have had success with players with offensive ratings of 5-99-45-45-80 or the like. Guy that will strike out a ton but if he plays a full season he can probabloy also hit 45 HR and get 100RBI. If the power from these guys at the upper end of the spectrum is reduced, I think you are going to need higher numbers in the contact, splits, eye categories to get that type of production.

Therefore, I am going to begin to phase any use of this type of player out of my teams.

You mean trade them to owners that haven't read the update...

I have had some success with similar players so I am a little worried as well. Do you really think it will be a significant decrease? Or more like 40 HR instead of 45?

im curious how it will effect a player like: http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1402187 . Last year he hit 46 hrs with an .866 ops despite only hitting .259 ba and .298 obp. If his homers drop then he basically becomes useless..

Many of the "small" changes they make have had drastic effects, others have had no effect at all. I wouldn't change anything until I saw what it actually did.

This is exactly what my point was, I think this type of guy has lost a lot of value with the change (NOTE: I am not saying this is a bad thing)

How can they only adjust the "Upper Levels". Shouldnt all homers be adjusted?
11/3/2009 10:55 AM
Does this take into account bad pitching or are homers just reduced regardless? I don't follow the detailed discussions but was there a HR issue vs. good pitching? It seems like a lot of bad pitchers are run out to the mound and teams should pay accordingly.

Maybe this means that home run records in many of the older worlds might be unattainable from now on?
