The Bey Moore Experiment (was Worth..) Topic

With the 17th pick of the Amature Draft in Metropolis the New Orleans Sandmen took Handed Pitcher Bey More out of Cranston West High School.

His current stats are:

Dur: 22 Hlth: 90 STM: 58: CTRL:18 L:50 R:43 V:77 1:71 2:56 3:41 4:35 5:24

He projects out at:

Dur: 27 Hlth: 100 STM: 89: CTRL:35 L:99 R:84 V:99 1:91 2:70 3:68 4:47 5:27

THe front office is worried about his lack of control, but is hoping that his splits, velocity, and pitches will make up for it. As a considered GM, I'm curious to know if he was worth it in the general public's opinion.

With that control, I would hope that he would reject my offer.

I'd throw that guy for the LOLs.

More importantly, how was that guy in your top 17???
11/4/2009 10:29 AM
Yikes. If I had a lot of draft picks to blow, I might be willing to take a chance on that guy - but not in the first round. Even if he reaches his projections on splits, velocity, and pitches, he's still a #4 or 5 SP at best - and those projected ratings are a long way off. Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's an extremely risky pick.

Thanks. That is what I was afraid of.

Prior to the draft his control looked a lot better (59 with 86/72 for splitsb according to my spreadsheet), but post draft it went down and his splits and OVR (went from 76 to 82) went up, so it sounds like I need to fire my HS scouts. Or give them more money.

What were your budget numbers for HS scouting and Advanced Scouting?
11/4/2009 10:41 AM
6 mil for HS scouting and 12 for advanced.

What irritated me is that even with a conservitive setting I still drafted him, though he's unsure about signing. Something about college making his parents happy.

Which I guess if he doesn't sign then I escape the contract and just accept this years draft as a write off.

You need to set up the Stmachi Scholarship Fund so that guy goes to college - any college.
11/4/2009 10:52 AM
Give him $500K to NOT play for me eh?

Here kid, take the money, go to college, play a couple of years and then we'll see about redrafting you *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*

It doesn't take bad scouting to tell you a guy with a current rating of 18 control is probably a bad risk.

gb/fb?

If you're lucky, he'll refuse to sign your offer, and you can get a type D pick next season.

I'd sign him. If he hits his projections, he'll do a great job not giving up hits. I'd have no problem allowing another couple of walks per game as a tradeoff for giving up fewer hits per game.

Worst case scenario, if you are worried about wasting money in your prospect budget... save it and see if you can sign a better International. If not, sign this guy at the end of the season. You'll lose a season of development, but the money doesn't do you any good after the season is over.

But agreed... I never would've let this guy make my top 17 on my draft board.
