Revocable waiver question Topic

I put a guy on revocable waivers intending to send him to AAA. Someone claimed him, he was automatically pulled back off waivers.

I tried to assign him back to the big league club and got a message that he could only be assigned to the minors because he had been DFA'd.

So I tried to assign him to AAA and got a message that he could only be assigned to the majors because of his contract status.

What to do?

This isn't a Revocable Waiver question, it's a Designated for Assignment question. He's designated, meaning you didn't want him. Your only option now is to release him. As it should be.

I don't think there's an error here. Your only options are to trade to the claiming team or release him. You cannot assign to the minors because he's out of options and has not cleared waivers. And you cannot re-assign to the majors because he was DFA'd and that loophole of using DFA/unassigned as a way to maintain an "inactive list" at the ML level was closed a number of updates ago.

Agree with erff. You should have waived him rather than DFA him. DFAing with revocable waivers has the potential of this happening.

Yeah, if you DFA'd instead of waived, you screwed up - either trade the guy or release him.

And in fact you must have DFA'd, beacuse if you had just done revocable waivers he would never have your ML roster.

Well, I waived him and that took so he's out of limbo.

? What do you mean?
11/11/2009 11:29 AM
I mean he's back on waivers so he's not sitting there in "can't be assigned" limbo.

How can you waive a guy who's already failed to clear revocable waivers by being claimed?

THAT seems like a bug.

He put him back on the 40-man and then waived him
11/11/2009 12:36 PM
Actually, I put him back on the 40-man, then removed him from the 40-man, then waived him.
11/11/2009 12:45 PM
Actually you didn't remove him from your 40-man. You may have placed him on waivers at the same time you tried removing him from the 40-man, but you can't remove him until he clears waivers. Check his player profile Fernando Guerrero. See that "Y" next to 40-man Roster?

Still, another team claimed him the first time he went through the wire. Seems like this is a loophole for getting around a claim you don't like.

I'm guessing this is NOT the way things are intended to work.
