I'm sure this won't happen but I think it's a good idea. HBD is a 7 day a week game. Once the season starts, with the exception of ST and the All-Star break, the owner doesn't get a day off.

So what I'm proposing is that WifS takes the major holidays and turn them into placeholder days. People travel, have family gatherings, throw parties, whatever on these days. Give 'em a chance to not worry about setting their staff for the playoffs or whatever. No games will be played but, if you want, you can still make roster moves. I'd start with Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and July 4th. Maybe sprinkle in Valentine's Day for the wife and Memorial Day for the vets.

What say ye, people of HBD?

Fully agree. A two-day hiatus for major holidays. I remember totally messing up my first coach hiring because the crucial coach hiring/FA days were during Christmas while I was mostly traveling. At minimum, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

i'd like to take advantage of anyone too busy to do anything with their teams during holidays

Great idea (Mike's, not sergei's).

i don't always get to my teams during holidays, but i'm fine with whatever happens

I agree. If you can't make 15 minutes available for your team(s), maybe you should not be playing HBD.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't have a problem with the major holidays off.

I don't either but I think it would be a nice option. It's not such a big deal if you're just missing a couple of games but, if you're in pre-season, you're missing a lot of stuff that you really shouldn't miss.

I agree with Mike. If you're playing regular season games, missing a day or 2 isn't bad. But if you're in the middle of the playoffs or pre-season activities such as coach hiring, free-agency, missing a day or 2 can really mess up your franchise.

Good suggestion Mike and I'm all for it.

It's a great idea Mike... I remember doing coach hiring on Christmas one year. No one should be subjected to that!
11/24/2009 9:14 AM
...as long as no religious holidays are included.
11/24/2009 9:30 AM
Or maybe include all of them?
11/24/2009 9:50 AM
I was thinking Federal holidays so there's no "But you didn't include Jihad week!! RACISTS!!!" complaints. Valentine's Day was a bit of a joke but, if the banks are closed, don't schedule HBD games/pre-season cycles.

What? Your family has a problem with you checking your HBD scores in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner? Jeez!

But seriously, its not that bad of an idea. While I am hosting myfamily this year so shouldnt have a problem getting online for a few minutes to check my team, in FYC we will be in the first day of free agency on Thursday, which does suck.

I'm hoping they don't include Jihad week because I usually have a lot of HBD time on my hands at that time. Being afraid to go out in public and all that.
