Option 2

Who is the better catcher? and is option 2 worth giving up a first round draft pick for? He's a type A free agent....I have the number 29th pick over all....

thoughts?

Option 2 is the only real catcher. Option 1 has way too low of pitch calling to be an everyday catcher. Option 2s low durability means he wont play everyday. Are you signing any other type a free agents?

Option #1 isn't really a catcher
Option #2 shouldn't be an option - signing a type A for 200 league average at-bats usually isnt wise

Option 3 would be this.....

Also a type A free agent asking 7.2 million

rdierkers, that is what I was afraid of with the low at bats.....Option 1 would have been his back up......

He'll give you more than 200 AB. But I wouldn't give up a first rounder for him.

Thats why I asked if your signing other Type A free agents. If Yes then go ahead and sign the catcher because he wont really cost you a first rounder..

Option 1 isn't a catcher...not even in case of injury.

Option 2 is a really good catcher and hitter, but his DUR is low and you'd have to handcuff him to another catcher and run a tandem. I don't really think a tandem catcher is worth giving up 1st round picks and supplemental round picks for. You can sometimes get some depth in round 2 so even a 2nd round pick can be valuable. Wouldn't get any consideration from me based on his Type A free agency

Option 3 I'm not sure why he's an option. If you are looking for a catcher, he is not one. Now if you are just looking for power hitting from a corner outfielder or possibly 3B, then he is an option. However he does want a nice chunk of change which I don't mind spending on a good player, but in my opinion he hurts you. He costs you financially, you'll lose a high round draft pick and he's 30 so the decline is right around the corner.

Are you rebuilding or do you think you can compete this season?

I won the WS 2 season ago and lost last season in the NLCS. So I'm in the here and now.....

I listed the 3 option b/c I've got a little bit of money to play with and also need to fill a hole in one of the corner outfield spots. Hense my consideration of the option 3. I agree however, a lot of coin and the age is a big risk......

I would go with option 4 - someone without compensation, either major or minor FA, who can call a game and forget the bat. Then make sure I have one slot available on my 40 man roster and go fishing for a pitch calling catcher in rule 5.

Hard to believe option 2 is a type A, if he were a type B I would go for him - or if you are signing another type A then losing a late 2nd round for him would be worth it. The other 2 would never get behind the plate for me.

If you're in it for the "here and now", then his age shouldn't bother you. He'll be fine until he's 33-34, at which point... who cares?

If you need a COF bat, get him. He's a solid contributor.

up date....I went with option 4 as recommended....and in a trade I pick up this catcher.....

gave up

to get him. I needed a catcher and he needed a first baseman. He should help the team.....
