Superclass gets 1 seed Topic

Tennessee State in Allen's OVC (C- prestige, 23-3, RPI #3, ranked #8) is, according to Bubble Watch, on pace to get a 1 seed in the NT.

Tenn St. has 10 upperclassmen - 7 seniors and 3 juniors. The last four years have been human, then Sim, then two with the current coach. Only 5 of the 7 seniors and 2 of the 3 juniors are human-recruited, but isn't this exactly what the class restriction is supposed to prevent?

This is a low-midmajor with no history of success earning a top seed in the NT because of a superclass of seniors.

That's crazy. Steelman was a smart guy to pick that team up.

I scheduled him for next year, but really didn't look at the roster. I am guessing Tennessee State will be a ghost ship and RPI-killer by that time. SWEET.

Kudos, steelman! Great season (so far).

I'm a very big proponent of having to win with your own players to earn a promotion. No offense to steelman, and my writing this most likely insures he'll boot my *** out of the NT, but he shouldn't really be eligible to move up until he wins w. his own players.

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious, but how does he have 7 seniors? I thought the cap per class was 6?

Recruit 6 freshman and recruit a JUCO with that same class in one of the next two years

Technically you could work it to have 12 seniors if you wanted.

I hope you guys took a look at my OOC schedule before you started talking smack on my squad and laid a bunch of backhanded compliments on me (besides tomnooch, I appreciate the support!). I doubt any of you schedule out of conference NEAR the death row I put my team through.

In addition look at my team and see if it could be close to as good as it is without the recruits I added - I can help you out real quick if you don't have the time, it wouldn't be.

And for the record I put 10 seasons in as a D1 coach a while ago in this world.

I don't think you can recruit the JC players to push the class over 6 (I may be mistaken) but a SIM definitely can. This looks like the case here. A human coach recruited 5 players in that class and then the team and a SIM took over. That SIM recruited 2 players that were SO JC's to push it to 7 before the current human coach took over the next year.

Nothing against the current coach and his success because I don't think having 1 guy over the 6 man limit guarantees success but it also doesn't really hurt if the players are somewhat decent.

I really don't get why SIMS are allowed to have more players in a given class considering any offseason a human coach can take over that team if they are qualified and essentially get around the class restriction rule. Is it really so hard to make a SIM controlled team programmed to only fill 6 spots in a class and then look only at players who are not of the same eligibility year?

The ONLY way a SIM team should be allowed to have more than 6 players in a class is if they are walkons to fill empty spots, IMO.

dont even have to look, bet they press.

Steelman - I mean no disrespect, just pointing out the 7-seniors thing. You're doing a great job.

Steelman you have turned that Tennessee St program into a nice program, back to back 20 plus win seasons rpi of 3 strong year.

For what it's worth (and not to get too far off topic), 5 of the top 10 RPI teams in Allen D2 (going in to the conference tourneys) run man, 3 run straight press, one runs man/press, and one runs zone/press. I'm not sure where that fits in to your "press rules everything" argument, but it's just something to be aware of.
