What would everyone think of HBD implementing a "rumor central" as an addon? It could be something where during free agency random offers would be posted. So for example, if I am chasing a top free agent, it might say, "Nashville franchise makes big offer to XYZ". It wouldnt have to say what I was offering, or maybe it could give a (possibly innacurate) range. It could also only be about 75% accurate. So it would include "false" rumors.

IMO it would spark a little more competition in free agency... kind of like the rumored Yankee-Redsox outbidding that happens. If the team I am chasing in my division is rumored to be going after a marque free agent, it might entice me to spend a little more to get a better free agent, or even bump an offer to the guy he is going after.

Thoughts?

I'd rather not have everybody (or anybody) know which FA's or IFA's I am pursuing.

Sure, but how realistic is that? In the Majors I am sure that teams dont want other teams know who they are going after, but it gets out. Agents do their best to start rumors (true or false) to drive up the value of their players. It would add a level of intrigue to free agency period.

You can already figure most of it out by looking at budgets/payroll. Start your own rumor.

I understand what you're saying Oriole, I do that on my blog on my own though sometimes.

Yeah I just think it would be a fun feature. I understand what Mike is saying, and I do use other peoples finance to help ME figure stuff out but im just thinking of other ways to improve the game.

You could do that on the blog, and ask people to submit things (true or not). You can then try to divine some truth from budgets, and/or make the rest up.
Sounds fun.

what if there was a section like a newspaper that had headlines about your league. with articles about certain players or trades.

You can use your blog for that.

We all realize you can use a blog for this, what my suggestion was something that is automatically generated by HBD, so you dont have to use a blog for it.

I'd rather have them work on things such as engine/logic improvements that users cannot do themselves rather than on something that users have the full ability to create (if they so choose).

you dont see the difference between this being automated and being done by users? If you automate it then it becomes an independent party. Users creating it they can choose what goes into it and what doesnt go into it. The Yankees have no choice if the ESPN finds out they are going after Albert Pujols and makes it the top story. They probably dont want this information out, because they dont want to bid against other teams. Also, if users are putting the information out, a lot of it is probably false.

I think people are getting it, they are just not liking it.

Two different things.

i think it would effect how willing some teams were to spend on players. i'd be more inclined to overpay a guy to keep him from a division or league rival. less willing if i knew he was going to the opposite league.

FDIAH got all excited when he mis-read the title of this thread as "Strapon".
