After the 1st game?

I got a note today for my DII team that my freshman PG isn't going to get any better at free throw shooting. The guy has had 3 practices.

Could this be a mistake? Does that happen semi-frequently?

Happens most frequently with free throw shooting. It's accepted that if you recruit a guy with low FT potential he will never improve, and if he does improve it will be no more than 1/3 letter grade.

According to WIS, it is not just 3 practices. They say that there is a month of practice between signing and the exhibition games. It is the same thing with recruiting and games. I think each recruiting cycle is equal to one week and 2 games is equal to a week in HD.

wait - are you telling me when you sign guys they have different ratings than when you recruited them?

If this is true, why don't we see what would equate to about 8 games worth of improvement during the exhibition days? I've never noticed any difference in improvement. Not saying it's not true, just curious why it doesn't seem to result in more improvement.

That must explain why all the other ratings are exaclty the same as when we signed them.

Are you on drugs today?

Sounds like the level of explanations I've been getting from WIS recently.

I had a PG max out of PER at 27 after the first game. Guess who was set to zero distro for 4 seasons? Great asst/TO ratio.

I'm not saying that the time frames I posted earlier make sense. I'm just saying that is what WIS claims. I asked them one time why the AC email had different levels of potential than what the players were rated during evals and they said it was because they had a month of observing players in practice. The recruiting cycle and games played times come directly from TK.

Still begs the question of why we don't see higher ratings increases during the preseason then. It seems like these "preseason practices" dont increase ratings. Only the practices that happen once the exhibition games begin seem to result in any increases.

What they mean by that is that the AC email is a little bit more accurate than FSS because they have had more time to study the player. They didn't mean that the player actually improved during that period.

If the team has been practicing a full month, why don't we see any improvement in player ratings other that freshmen now have a D- IQ in the Off/Def?

Yeah, thats what I was referring to. A month of practice = about 8 games. I wouldn't mind having that extra improvement in ratings.

I think its ridiculous to think that someone would "max out" at a sport/activity they're good at, in the growing stages of the sport/activity, after 1 day/practice. Needless to say, I enjoyed the non-potential days.

I actually have a slight counter-point- my sister ran track in HS and as a freshman at a DI school. She ran faster in HS than she ever did in college. Was it coaching? Body development? Altitude (we're from Colorado, college was at sea level), travel schedule?

It's quite possible, but I have a hard time believing it's as common as it is in HD.
