OK, so chaulk this up under "what was he thinking?". I have accepted the head coaching position at Mount Olive. Don't tell the team, but they absolutely stink.

One conference championship in 40 seasons. Two winning seasons and none since season 4. The RPI has been out of the 200s once since season 31. I love a good challenge and this will be at tough as they come.

Mount Olive ranks dead last for Div 2 programs in Allen.

You definitely got your work cut out for you.

Just found out I get a bonus if we can sell 25 season ticket packages. If I force each player to buy one, that will leave 13.

Fastbreak is dead out Mount Olive. I prefer Motion, but not with these passing ratings. Looks like Triangle will have to do for now. We'll keep with Zone for now, but I will recruit to run a tough man-to-man in the future. Looks like I can offer lots of minutes and starts.

Overall record...294-801.

Number of wins in the CT...12 (ranked among the bottom 4 in D2).

Number of NT bids...ZERO (one of only 9 D2 teams to not make the dance).

Look out #275 SE Oklahoma St. We're gunning for you.

Good luck Floyd, it will be fun to track your upward progress.

Thanks. D2 is the best place to try something like this. You'd get fired in D1 and have to take too many baby steps in D3. Funny thing is all of my recruiting battles are with D3 guys. No fun in the D2 slums.

Primary goal for first recruiting class was to find warm bodies.

Actually, was looking to improve depth at guard, rebounding and SF.

Kenneth Case (FR-PF) I was attracted to Case's high potential in ATH (41) and REB (59). He also has enough ratings to get some time at SF.

Sean Rush (FR-SG) More than likely a career bench player. Nothing stands out except his high in BH (50).

Curtis Gadson (JR-C) I have a very young team and wanted to add an experienced big. Not really sure what to expect out of him, but I like his SPD (68).

Mark Johnson (FR-C) This was the one I was trying to land. He originally projected D1. He has highs in REB (48), DE (52), BLK (70) and LP (50). The two negatives are SPD (only 27 and low) and FT (0.597 and low).

I would have liked to have done better in FT%, but I couldn't afford to be too picky. But sense, I hate giving away points, I'll address this in future season.

Before a "spirited" crowd of 150, Mount Olive opened the season with a 10-point home victory over Sonoma St. For a team with a 1-19 non conf record over the past two seasons, the win was a huge confidence boost.

Jon Bowers (JR) led all scorers with 20 and Walter Hinshaw (JR) dished out 8 assists, but the real story was the play of Kenneth Case (FR), who had the first of what is expected to be many double-doubles with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, the first-year recruits chipped in 29 points and 21 rebounds. The Trojans hit the road for 3 straight. The road will prove difficult as they only won 2 road games last year. Stay tuned....

Case scored 18 and added 10 rebounds as Mount Olive wins on the road against U of the Sciences. Hinshaw got everyone into the flow with 10 assists in a game that was never in doubt.

In a game that wasn't even as close as the score might suggest, Mount Olive laid an egg against Dowling. Positives include the continued strong point guard play of Hinshaw...another 7 assists. Just wait until he actually learns the new offensive set.

Only 4 games into the season and Mount Olive has already equaled the number of road wins for each of the last two seasons with a 10-point win over Alderson-Broaddus. Nothing really stood out except shooting .500 as a team from the field.

Gannon is victim number 4. Any more wins this season and we will surpass each of the last 2 seasons. Double-digit wins is becoming a real possibility.

With a big win over Colorado, Colorado Springs (74-33), Mount Olive clinhces a non-losing non-conf schedule. Granted our competition has been week, but we currently have the best record in the conference. Some how I think conference play will be another story.

Knocked off our first human coach and one that is no pushover in the 10-point win over Washburn. Best RPI in school history.

The win over Washburn was the 300th in school history. We are now 300-802.
