The Rule, Not Exception: Falling Short Topic

I get really tired of seeing the bulk of players get to their 4th or 5th season, with good coaching and stop short of their projections. It's not "sim."

It can wreck my strategy. It's frustrating and it is one reason I'm wondering if I want to re-up or do something more productive with my time and money.

Someone else has told me it's the biggest reason he's considering quitting.

Should we only consider a player a "prospect" only if he would be high major league quality when he stops 1-4 points below his "projections" in the most significant categories?

Bell shaped curve, from falling short, to meeting, to exceeding? No. Not close.

It's a big, big skew.

Real life scouts would be fired all over the map, me thinks.

well, now that think you know the new "rule" (being the exception to the former "rule"), why don't you just adjust your expectations and play accordingly?

or, every time you see the word "projected," replace it with "best case scenario" in your mind and see how much more fun you have

You know what they say -- insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result

I guess that's the only solution. It is intrinsically unfun, but I guess that's how it has to be.

I guess it isn't possible that you are doing something wrong in your player development strategy -- it must be an error with the sim.

You know we are all playing the same game

Accept that guys probably won't meet their projections and move on

Well, schuyler...

How do you feel when nearly everyone around you -- especially people you hire, almost always fail to meet what you're told their expectations should be?

It's just not fun. It's built in disappointment.

When "should be" is not "should be," it is error.

Should be or not should be?
That is the question.
Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The vagaries and mirages provided by projections
Or take my ball and go home?

I think you're taking this a bit hard, chillax man...

Not hard, it just loses its fun.

The bubblegum just doesn't taste like the wrapper says it will.

I understand the frustration but come on man, how does a guy not meeting projections make HBD less fun? It might be a bit of a letdown every now and then when your projected 95 overall only reaches 91 or your 91 stops short at 88 but the game is still the same, and it is the same for everyone. Take what you can and don't fret so much about ratings, after all the objective is winning not getting higher ratings.

In your 2 leagues your advance scouts are paid 15m and 16m. Seems you have 3 choices: (1) splurg to 20m and squeeze a little more of the inaccuracy out of the projections, (2) live with it as is, or (3) decide the scouts are not worth the money and spend less on scouts and more on better players.

Many of us have chosen (3) and it has not hurt the enjoyment of the game that players don't meet projections (in MLB - Sizemore for example)
