Whats up with the Grades? Topic

I added this to this topic because I see a lot of people are seeing weird situations arise with the GPA of players and how much study hall mins they put in. I just think something weird is going on if players with 10+ mins can fail when they normally don't come that close to failing.

Also a freshman ineligible getting a 4.0? Ya thats realistic.

========================================

#18 rated team, 13-2, going to repeat as conference champions...

Everything this fine you say?

So its his senior year, he has played since his freshman year and never sat out. I have 11 Mins in study hall for him and he ends up with a first semester GPA of 1.8?

What the heck is going on here? Aren't seniors supposed to be easier to have passing grades from? I know this is a new engine but honestly 11 Mins in his senior years should be fine to get a cumulative 2.5 GPA guy to pass his senior year.

The worst part is he is my star player! My #1 scorer.

What were his grades at midterm, and what did you do to adjust his minutes at that point?

Why not have one of this HS teammates take his tests for him?

I know come on this is d3, I should be able to get away with having the teachers just pass him.

Also, I had his mins like at 5 at midterm and he was a 1.9GPA at midterm. I think increased his mins by 6 up to 11 which is way more than I have every used in 2-3 years of playing HD and his GPA actually drops?

I heard someone else saying the exact same thing of increasing his study mins and then his GPA going down for finals.

Personally I think something is screwed up if in 3 years he never failed and then his senior year I put 5 mins to mid terms and 11 mins to finals and he fails.

There seems to be quite a few.

This was from the big ten CC.

can't say that i've paid that close attention recently, but i did just have a JUNIOR with a 2.9 come in at a 1.9. are you kidding me????????????

oh, he had a 3.2 as of last year. 73 WE. that's just wrong. how can the computer steal one of the players that i had nothing to do with being on this team from me? ;)

also someone had an ineligible freshman just get a 4.0 as well? What the heck is up with this new grading system?

I don't know how your practice plan is set up, but if I had a SR who isn't a great student to begin, was capped in ATH/SPD/BH/P/ST/DU, scored 24+ ppg and came in with a 1.9 at midterms he probably would have gotten at least 20 min. SH, I definitely think you were playing with fire only going to 11.

What level was the inel. FR at? It isn't too surprising that ineligibles get very high GPAs at DI or DII, where they are getting 90 minutes SH during the season they have to sit out.

Everything seems fine to me, I was having a bunch of trouble under the old engine keeping guys eligible even with giving them SH minutes from the first practice. When I first started playing this game you literally didn't have to give even freshman SH time unless they were doing poorly at the midterm, now that won't cut it. I've had guys fail when I've given them 13+ minutes. I have 3 teams under the new engine and while there's only been 1 semester for each team nobody has failed off, but at the midterm report for at least 1 of my teams nobody was even below a 2.5 which hasn't happened in forever.

If his midterm grade was a 1.9, you should have rounded that down to a 1.8 and given him 22 minutes of SH. These days, everybody should be counted down from 4.0. Forget the old formula where Sophmores started at 3.6, Juniors started at 3.2, and Seniors started at 2.8. It's not viable anymore.

4.0 - GPA (rounded down) x 10 = SH minutes

4.0 - 1.9 (1.8) x 10 = 22 SH minutes

Are you serious having that many SH minutes? I have never given anyone over 8 minutes and never had any problem keeping guys eligible.

I guess I just have been lucky on all the teams I have ever had then. At least I know for the future then I guess. I usually always have let the seniors/Juniors have 0 SH mins and Freshman/Sophomores have 3-7 mins.

all freshman start with 10 and then get adjusted up or down as grades are posted. anyone under 3.0, I will typically give about 8-10 minutes to, regardless of year
6/8/2010 12:39 PM
i agree with courtmagic, anything under a 2.0 should be at least 15 minutes if you want to keep him eligible. 15 is a mininum (to me) with anything under 2.0

Then you've been playing with fire, and were lucky enough not to get burned until now.

Why anyone would skimp on SH and risk having a player go ineligible is beyond me in the first place, though.
